Frostbite Shootout 2025 Winner & Results

Post by Surprise »

The rescheduling of the Shootout to Sunday from the Horrific blow of Saturday paid off with Variable winds and Calm Seas.

This year I would say we had about 15 boat participants. Salmon in the 15-17 inch class seemed to be taken by everyone with various Lakers in the mix. We ran a 4 rod program with 2 riggers 45 down and 2 Lite bite Slide divers out 150. Al Moorehouse and Kurt Degraaf aboard Surprise today boated 7 salmon and three Lakers with another 5 dropped. The Lures of choice today were Stinger Mixed Veggies, Acme Agent Orange & Hi Tec Sparkle Rainbow Trout. A Fat Buzzy got Honorable mention. The Slide divers took the majority of our fish. I ran the Pointy End of the boat. Our run today was from the Swifts Reef south and over to Black Rock and up to the Unicorn and back across to Thompson Pt reef then back down and around. We were quite pleased with our catch and off at 11:30 AM to set up for the Weigh-in Barbecue.

We had the Weigh-in and Award presentation and Barbecue where everyone enjoyed something to eat and tell tales of the day. Graham and his team were set up on the Main Dock to take Diet samples and Live fish for Transmitter Implanting with their return to the Lake.
Someone will need to give his numbers. The winning fish was also Transmitter Implanted and returned Live to the Lake.

Winner of the 15th Annual FrostBite Fleet Salmon Shootout 2025 is:
Ron Dusablon, Lincoln, VT.
with a 22 1/2 inch 4 lb 12 oz Landlock Salmon

THANK YOU Randy and everybody else for all you do for the Shootout! This is my third year participating and yet to bring a qualifying fish to the weigh in, but we did manage to get Graham some fish for his transmitter study. I’m pretty good at catching the smaller ones without my lucky lady aboard
I did get a chance to speak with Graham and his cohorts while he was doing surgery implanting the transmitters and he introduced us to two of his assistants who are conducting studies of their own through UVM for their degrees. Rylie is working on a whitefish survey and she is looking for line caught specimens over 16” in length and Kyle is studying the Round Goby minnows, an invasive species that could potentially decimate our lake’s natural bait population. I hope to have some contact info for them shortly to share should any of you wish to help out an excellent cause to help our fishery!
Here are some pics of the transmitter implant process.
