Thanks to all salmon anglers who've helped our research team by donating fish for our diet samples today (4/13/2025)! Your help is making our study possible - we couldn't do it without you!
Stats from today:
-Total fish collected: 8
-Male/female ratio: 1 male, 7 females
-All fish had no fin clip (likely USFWS stocked fish)
-While most stomachs were empty (6/8), 2 contained insects
-Majority had lamprey scars (5/8)
April Collection Goals:
-8 fish from Inland Sea
-7 fish from Main Lake
Where to Find Me Next:
I will be launching out of Converse Bay tomorrow (Sunday 4/14) and fishing until approximately 1 PM with Ron. If you catch any salmon and are willing to contribute to our research, please stop by! Just make sure to keep them in a livewell or on ice.
Thank you all for your continued support and assistance with this important research. Your contributions are advancing our understanding of Atlantic Salmon in Lake Champlain!

Re: Thank you Salmon Anglers Who Helped at Converse Bay Today (4/13/2025)
Day 2 with a south sample today out of Converse! It was an early bite and 6-8 boats seen on the water today as the wind came up hard as the northern pike moved into the fleets salmon bite and took over the water after 9 am! Winds whipped up to 25-30 mph by 11:00 am. out of the North. Boats came in at Noon and Graham processed 7 salmon! We were fortunate to bring in 4 salmon and ended with 7/7 for the weekend under tough conditions! This video explains the process of his Graham's work on a beautiful 23" 4.4 lb salmon Sure Strike charters brought in. We are off to a great start north and south efforts this weekend! Ice will work as well if if fish are placed immediately on ice in a cooler especially as water warms in June to keep them alive or if you don't have a working livewell.

Thanks for your interest in our research! Right now, the majority of Atlantic Salmon are being caught in shallower water (around 15-30 feet deep). This seems to be the most productive depth range currently.
If others have different observations or experiences with depth patterns, please feel free to chime in!

4-8 will work better if you dare. This is a special time of year cause they can be caught casting from shore this time of year. Just find a warm water inlet and get near it and start throwing little Cleo’s or other heavy spoons… then HOLD on!

Small stick baits are deadly in shallow water (under 6’) this time of year. To minimize hang ups and fouling from weeds etc. I cut two of the 3 barbs off the treble hooks they come with, just be sure to hold the lure up to see how the hooks hang so you know which one to leave, preferably the back one for best balance and lure action.
