lamprey control ?
What if any treatments have taken place recently? Some friends of mine that fished the rotory derby said they caught many lake trout over 3 days and every fish had many scars and many lamprey attached!! They also stated they caught multiple fish over 30 inches ans none of they were over 10 lbs !! They where fishing in the converse area. An information would be helpful!! Thanks!! Sleeps

Re: lamprey control ?
Hey buddy. Good to hear from ya!
I think lamprey are similar to coyote.
When they have pressure on population they somehow evolve past it and turn up the reproduction in the area. It is an uphill battle and it seems our actions can only control growth of populations not eliminate them, or even reduce them overall. Cause there are just as many in the lake now as there were 25 years ago IMHO.
Good subject. Just not much results. No matter how hard the states try to reduce. It is more like control than reduction.
If control actions were not being done we would have skinny runts of fish who look like Swiss cheese..
If the lakers would just learn to stay off bottom and jump they would not have this issue as bad! Lol

Re: lamprey control ?
This past weekend we had several lakers that had been hammered by lamprey. Whallons Bay has been crazy bad with lamprey all spring even on the salmon, but this weekend we were well north and still seeing severe lamprey impacts on deeper reefs with our lakers. Earlier this year I reached out to Shawn, and he requested pics to share with him, which I did. It looks like there is an uptick, and as Reelax shared, it's more control than elimination. Maybe we can begin to grow the brown trout fishery and rely less on the lakers?!
