smelt bite was on

headed north with a friend and our target is smelt. got a late start because of slippery road conditions. we set up in a 2 man clam and cut 3 holes using our ice rods with sitka smelt sticks on and grubs on the hooks. got fishing around 10 am and we dropped down 2 rods and smelt on wow what a start it was like that for 20 minutes then after the bite was steady. so much fun pulling up smelt on a ice rod . we fished till around 3 pm and we had way over 100 smelt. so good eating . its only the 3rd time on the ice for me in 2 years and im loving every minute of it. really glad i have friends who take me. hope to get out next week. wont be long ill be hitting the shores on the open water. going to try and post some pics from my phone its been awhile since i done it.
