Post by Sleepswithdafishes »

Got a call from a friend friday evening wanting to back up to Back Lake to do some brook trout fishing!!! Well not wanting to let him down We met at the BuckRub Pub at noon on Saturday!! Picked up a couple of supplies and headed to the access area which is all of about a mile away!! The Lake had a slight chop with the wind out of the south east. Fished from about 2 till around 6pm caught and released around 12 or so 10 to 12 inchers that where healthy and pretty!! We stayed the night at the motel which is located at the Buck Rub had a great meal and a few cocktails up and atem at 6am had a great breakfast intown hit the water around 7am till about noon, caught many brookies about the same size as the nite before plus one 16 inch Rainbow most fish came trolling Panther Martins about 2mph flatlining water temp was 57 degrees ! The weather and views could not have been better!!!! If you ever want a quick getaway check this area out!!!! Sleeps

Good info...thanks Sleeps.
When I first read this I thought it said BACK rub pub not Buck Rub pub.
If It were Back Rub...I'd probably never leave it to get on a darn boat. :ugeek:

First let me say hi. First post and all. I love Back Lake for all the memories growing up. My grandfather owned a camp on it growing up. My father now lives there. Pulling the row boat out for an evening or morning fish priceless. As I grew older was allowed the 12' outboard, big time for a sixth grader. Learned a little flyfishing in high school, dad being a NH fishing guide and all. I hadn't been up in 15 yrs so last summer grabbed the popup and kids and off we went. While having coffee with dad as the morning fog is starting to burn off, I hear the camper door slam. Like greese lightning my pajama clad boy is heading for the picinet table and my ultralight. He ditched the Zebco that weekend never to look back. My son was hooking bass befor I finished my cup of joe. Back Lake is priceless in my book.
I'll post a pick soon as I figure it out.

Thanks for the read. Always nice to have a hot breakfast ready to order at 6 AM. Fish to follow sounds even nicer. I'll have to Googlemap that lake.

Sleeps, As a young man I spent a lot of time up in that area. I was a licensed guide in NH at age 18 and worked a bear and moose operation out of Stewartstown. Just up the road from the Buck Rub Pub ;) The fishing is actually fantastic in that area. The Conn. river has some real nice Browns in it and the Connecticut lakes have a bunch of salmon and some quality Lakers as well!!!

Oh the memories...... My first Bear with the bow and arrow, My client shooting many HUGE bulls, running beagles for snowshoe hares,Road hunting partridge (HeHe... that's what they did up there!!)... visits over the border for drinks of Naughty water with Canada reduced drinking age.... Ahhhhh... Northern NH is a great place indeed :D

Good read.

Ahh Sleeps! The secret is out!! We have been hunting the Pittsburg area for 15 years.....many many evenings spent at the Buck Rub! Used to be a nice little resturant on Back lake just off from Route 3....last I knew it closed a few years back. Hunted whitetails & snowmobiled up there many times, but only fished once! Got to get up there more often in the summer.
Rick......never seems to amaze me the more I found out the same haunts we have in common! Been staying at Spruce Cone lodge with Dot & Gary since the early 90's.....awesome folks up there! Hopefully back this fall!
