Re: Converse Ramp Closing for Construction
This is from Mike Wichrowski, from the state:
"Your timing could not have been better. I’m trying to get a press release out today to let folks know our finalized schedule, which has changed a bit over the past 2 weeks. Below is what I just sent out to the town clerk and a few others.
To be clear, this was a hard one for us to schedule. We have all the recreational boaters that want this site open until mid-Sept, the anglers who want the access back open in last Sept, and the contractor who just wants the water level to be low and the air temps to be warm. This schedule is one that probably annoys everyone a little bit by cutting the summer boating season short and delaying the fall fishing season by a few weeks. I hope this will just be an inconvenience for many users rather than a huge problem for everyone."
What was sent to the Town Clerk and a few others:
If you have not heard, the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department is planning on closing Converse Bay Access Area (locally known as Cedar Beach) to conduct a ramp renovation project. Late last week the Department received an updated construction schedule from the contractor and it is a bit earlier than what was communicated to some of you about 2 weeks ago. There are a variety of factors that go into this ramp work, but cold weather in late October is something that needs to be avoided if at all possible, which is the primary reason for moving up the ramp construction and closure into August
Construction activities will begin on August 10, but the ramp will remain open through the weekend of August 22 and 23. The boat ramp and entire access area will be closed beginning August 24, and remain closed until mid-October. This means there will be NO ACCESS to the ramp or water beginning the weekend prior to Labor Day.

We can only hope it gets done according to schedule. I have a crew this year for the Frostbite Shootout. Hoping we don't get another little breeze like last year.

Sounds like a perfect time to do the work before the shoot-out and the unofficial start of the Frostbite season. Although it may cut into Judd's perchin with days of the week ending in y for a few months.

Yeah, can anyone point my to the nearest ramp to converse that would be a good, regular access area? Either on the Vermont or New York side? Preferably a state owned ramp? Thank you for any help!!

On the Vermont side, closest North would be Shelburne bay, and South would be Lewis Creek...
Also South would be Hawkins Bay (Little Otter), and then Redgate (Big Otter)...
