Congrats on a nice fish Ron, also to Ben.Sorry to have missed the tournament, but it is too far to travel with a threat of bad weather for one day of fishing.
This river fish controversy reminds me of a conversation I once had with an acquaintance about their bird hunting camp in NY and whether they hunted deer from there. His haughty reply was"Goodness no, we never shoot mammals."I responded with something like it is still hunting and the taking of life for sport and food and for the sake of the sport, we shouldn't be critical of each others preference in game, after all we were both hunters and should stick together to form a more united front.A little bit of the same philosophy might apply here.Maybe a seperate division might be in
order but not a seperate barbeque.Having caught river salmon on fly gear I know Ben's fish is no less a trophy than Ron 's,also a 5lb lake trout I caught solo in 4 footers is still a memorable fish.

I am glad we left early sat. morning because of the wind. After fishing all day friday we decided it wasn't worth it to get pounded by the wind and waves for a few more little fish, seems like we were right. Can't blame Ben,he followed the rules,if not the spirit of the frost bite fleet. Next year I am sure the rules will change.

dont come on here and talk shit, obviously people did not expect someone to fish from shore in the frostbite shootout. Anyone that knows what the frostbite shootout is and the reason behind it knows 100% that it is a tournament for trolling in a boat for salmon... the guy that won I believe knew better too and that is the reason i have something to say about it. In my eyes that was a shady thing to do... If you dont see how this could bother people that take the tournament a bit more serious then get the hell off our forum...

I agree, shady. It may have been within the rules but it was far outside the moral rules and the spirit of frostbite fishing.

I thought it was a light-hearted joke when the river question was posed last week. Never thought that it would've been actually done.

Thanks again for your hospitality, like always. Your tournament is frendly and should stay that way. I agree that frosbite shootout should be a trolling tournament and maybe we need some restrictions about certain parts of the lake. Anyway who will go fishing North hero hatchery and come back to Point Bay marina with a boat in November?
Congratulations Ben and nice fish Ron.

The guy that caught them said so at the weigh-in. You are way off base here.

Congrats to Ben. I hope you are not taking any of these posts personally. I don't think that people feel that you did anything under handed. The rules are the rules. I am a first year participant, so I have no history here. I have trolled Champlain (not even every year, but most) for the last 20+ years. My fishing partner and I had this conversation about the roots of the Shootout on our drive back to N.H. Not that a couple of newbies have any right to spout off, but we are in agreement with most. The Shootout should be for the late season trollers who endure what the lake has to offer. Just my 2 cents. It was a rough day and I glad we were out there with you guys. Also glad to hear of nobody getting into a dangerous situation. Good luck to you hardcore trollers. I'm putting the boat away and chasing deer.
