We’ve been fishing south Florida the past few days aboard my buddy Daren’s 24’ Sea Hunt CC and the fish gods rewarded me with another bucket list fish, a beautiful 6’ sailfish (measured jaw to fork) yesterday morning. Unlike the prior day the bait was scarce in front of Boynton Inlet so we trolled north and almost in front of Mar A Lago we started to see some flyers. I double checked the drags on all 5 rods we were running and no sooner than I sat down on the gunwall the rod on the starboard outrigger fired and the fish took off for Miami. It peeled close to 200 yards off the spool before I could slow it down and we could get the boat turned into it, what a run!! The first jump (of at least 6) I could tell it was a beaut even from over 600’ back and Daren started filming on the third leap to capture the awesome moment in time for eternity. After about a 10 minute battle we had it along side and got a quick video of the release for another angler to catch.
The fishing has been EXCELLENT, we have caught mahi, skip jack tuna, numerous barracudas and of course bonita, still no wahoo. There’s always tomorrow….

Great catches.
It's always a memorable time when you spend time offshore fishing.

Re: Palm Beach Sails And Mahi
Many, many years ago my Father caught a huge sailfish in Mexico. We had just moved to California. As the fish came to the boat, the crew was pressing him to kill it so they could get it mounted and collect a commission. He was agreeable only to the point that it was close enough boat-side for a picture, and then he decided that a new TV was more important so he instructed them to cut it loose. Now we have replicas available and the crews and release ethic are very different, but Dad passed early this spring and it's one of my favorite photos of him. I love the salt. You had a great trip! Good eats and memories! Congratulations!

I am fortunate my good friend of 44 years lives in Delray Beach just south of Palm Beach and is familiar with the waters. We caught the sail 2 miles off shore straight out from Mar A Lago in 250 FOW and we ran a fairly slow troll at 7-8 mph. We were running a black and purple jet head sea witch with a strip of bonita we cut up from the prior day’s catch. Good times!
