North of Colchester Reef

Post by pfu »

Took the young grand boys out to try to catch some lakers. Reeled two in by hand as the fleas were worst I have ever seen. Had to be every six inches for forty plus feet of line. Cut lines, rolled up for garbage and called it a day. May try outer bay tomorrow but the fleas have taken the fun out of kids time with parents and grand parents.

What line are you running? Sounds brutal!

30# worked last year but never saw them in such a wide span of water depth.

I fished Willsboro bay this week. Started with braid (that didn’t last long !!!) switched to 40# big game and it was much better

Curious what rod and reels are being used for 40# test setup? Hate the thought of large clunky reels and prefer rods with some bend. Separate rod and reels from pre-flea outbreak?

Line will be here tomorrow but wasn’t sure if I was going to strip line from existing equipment or purchase four new.

Fished that same area Friday. 40# mono wasn’t enough to keep them off for us and even had them accumulate on the rigger cable a bit. I was able to double up right away with my daughter and got her PB laker over 10#, but then spent more time clearing fleas than fishing :-(

Congrats. Sad to think the lake offered so much over my lifetime to now become more like work than relaxation and quality time with family and friends. Maybe it is time to move elsewhere. Just not sure where.
