January Jubilee outta Converse
Fished out of Converse with Dave Adams and Lightandvariable. 1st to launch at 7 with ramp plowed and sanded by Reggie. (Good thing he doesn’t charge for this service)
We floated with calm conditions and barely a ripple and motored across the pond to setup. We started with 4 riggers and 2 slide divers and swapped out a diver for lead core though out the day The best sets hit between 20 and 30ft down. Best spoons were blue moon and rainbow speedy shiners.
We had a full 3 course feast that had marinated venison, garlic butter bread sticks and baked potatoes slices with salt, pepper, butter and onions. This was one of the most enjoyable home cooked meals we have ever had on the boat
Well the grill was used to peak the bite. And wow did it work. Before we could eat…half the rods all fired one after another, we boated tripples with 2 of 3 being salmon! What a flurry of activity. Experienced crew never missed a beat and the fish never had a chance.
Fun to watch the young bald eagles on split rock point watch us for the laker releases and try to swoop down to time a meal over and over. We felt like a fishing team after while;)
After a while digitroll motored out, and around 9am Reg came out with his vhf greeting we have all
Come to love and expect when he launches;)
Once the salmon chop picked up around 11 the action got better and we settled into an area of water that kept active.
Fight of the day was a salmon that hit and went on a big run followed by a major fight that took me 15 min to win… Ended up being a nice salmon that was hooked right below the dorsal fin allowing him to pull the line like a tow truck:) he had his way with me for a while, but I got him in the end
Around 230 we decided that we had had enough and we didn’t have anything else to cook, so we pulled em;)
Today was 1/2 salmon and 1/2 lakers and both have great fights…
Thanks for the great time and epic stories and laughs guys!

Great report and a fun crew for sure. The grub sure was "Best in Fleet"
What a day for a late January float.

We always want to catch the "the big one" or a record number, but in reality you just can't beat a day like that. Great report guys

Re: January Jubilee outta Converse
Well fishing in winter has its challenges. One of mine is my driveway which has a steep section and always presents a interesting pull at the end of the day… well last night I got 80% up and the rig lost momentum and started to slide backwards even with studded snows, 450lbs of sand in back, plow on and traction control off in manual shift l2.
IE max traction mode:)))
Well I stuffed her in a snow bank half way down and called it a night. Riding that bronco to the bottom woulda been ugly…
Decided to call crew in am and tell story… well needless to say DAcommitted and Lightandvariable are some if the best crew ever to be assembled. They reassembled at 11 am to sand and work the plan to get Reelax back in her barn… Good too see Dreamcatcher also help… Man I’m
Lucky to have such great friends:)
Only took one more run.. thanks Neptune!
Fish on, and chains on order!!!

That looks like one hell of a VT driveway. Glad there was no damage and you made it up with help. Love the stories and has me thinking about what I can do to fish in wintertime. Seems like # 1 is to get a grill onboard !
Thanks again guys.....

You know, instead of just putting the sand in the box it came in, maybe you should bolt that new KitchenAid to the back of your truck and put it on turbo. Be like a tailgate sander.

Re: January Jubilee outta Converse
Jack,
Have heavy duty Vbar chains coming to ensure it doesn’t happen next time:) hope they make a difference on the hard packed ice/snow…
Good thing my boat is relatively light.
