6/30/2016 jimbow made the long trip up to fish for catfish and pan fish. i started fishing at 6:20 am and jim showed up around 8 am or after. i was into the sunnies pretty good and a few bullhead . jim anchored out a little more out than me and caught some whites and yellows. so around 10 am i decided to go out and target more yellows and whites and bite they did. i landed several yellow perch over 12 inches long and showed them to jim and released them back to the water. yellows the females are bigger than the males so i released them to spawn again. kept lots of yellows 8 to 9 inches filleting . whites were finicky but did catch and kept 26 . saw several whites under the boat chase my worm but would just stop dead and leave. catching the yellows was most effective dragging bottom with my snelled hook close to the sinker. the yellows were also bigger this way. we left about 1:30 pm and jim headed up lake for some salmon fishing. no runs today for either of us but theres another day. i ended up with a nice combinations of sunnies yellows and white to fillet tonight. it seems no matter where i drop anchor the fish are plentiful.

Matt that salmon was 24 1/2" long and very fat, pushing 5.5 -6 lbs I'd say, I left around 6:00pm and I caught 2 nice lakers and another salmon around 19" all on Bee's by that time...same ones I had on my last post (Fishing this past week) and another I did up special...I think it is a winner.

Hi everyone, we, mr. and mrs. Sawyer are brand new members to the forum. We enjoy everyones input and we have learned alot by your fishing experiences. We've been fishing for 38 years, mostly the southern part of the lake and have new endevors for experiencing the upper part of the lake. We just finished rigging up our boat for lakers and salmon this year, and we enjoy reading and learning new techniques for these great fish! Fish on!

7/1 2016 went out today for a little pan fishing and any thing else that bites to. my son and granddaughter were coming out later to join me in his boat. started fast at 6 am lots of big gills in 6 feet of water and some big bass also. landed 6 nice bass by 7:30 am and then no more. my son and granddaughter arrived at 9 am and they were having a blast. alayna is going to be six years old this month and likes her fishing. around 11 am my school of pan fsih shutdown for some reason and i soon found out why i had a fierce bite set the hook and it doubled my rod right over i coudnt move it for 15 or 20 seconds my son said after then it came up a little and went under the boat and had my rod tip under the boat and running my burning my drag hurried and tried to open my bail but didnt make it and at the same time saw the fish some of it on the other side of the boat and it snapped my line like a piece of paper. what a beast looked like a giant carp but not really sure. 12 lb trilene big game line and a good drag but not quick enough opening the bail. my granddaughter says pa pa you had champ on i laughed and said no one of its babies could have been though. i will never forget this fish and would have liked for him to go away from the boat as i would have had a better chance at landing it.

7/2/2016. went over to the jungle for some cat fishing and pan fishing and my son was going to come over later with his big boat with the winds out of the wild west. i couldnt hold anchor in ten foot of water so headed back to shore for some bluegill fishing in 18 inches of water where my jon boat is kept. my son came down and fished out in 13 feet of water later and said come out with me. i said i was having to much fun out of the wind with the gills. finally around 10 am or so he came in the jungle and said come out with me. i said okay but ist i need to see what those big fish are about 30 feet from me. jumped in his boat and paddled over and what a sight we saw. two good size catfish on a tire and one in the tire. then we looked over approx 15 feet from that another catfish in a tire. we were stunned and noone would ever beleive this so we took pics and my son matt made 2 videos which i hope to post on here soon. well anyhow just for kicks i stuck my pumpkinseed bait down in the tire and you know the rest of it he gobbled it and fish on and nice 17lb catfish. then left them alone and went out panfishing and did okay as the wind died down some. matt brought me back in at 1 pm so i could head home and he was going to pick up my daughter later for some more catfishing. i told him i would scout the shore line for them for later in the evening. went about 50 yards along the shoreline saw movement and there was a catfish in a hole in the weeds. set my pumpkinseed bait down in front of his nose and fish on. unbeleivable. both gave me all i could handle hooking them so close to the boat and had my drag set just right. this catfish was almost 16 lbs. my son, daughter, and daughter-in-law are now over there fishing for some more cat fish action. still cant believe i saw this . :o

I have read about catfish using a bucket or barrel to spawn in. I wonder if they were using the tires for the same thing?

Are you referring to car tires in the lake? How big are they? Do you think they were put there to hold fish? Very interesting structure you guys got... Almost like fishin arrowhead lake in Milton:)

matt those tires been there awhile and i dont how long but someone told me they were from hurricane irene. i didnt realize it until yesterday there are at least 6 in front of the beach. because of the clear water and low water they are viseable. i pulled 3 out of the water last year . hope to get the videos on my emails today and hopefully i will send them to gerry and he will post them for me.
jim: i think your right i think there spawning with the female in the tire and the males guarding it and ready to fertilize the eggs. i didnt think they spawned in the summer but now days you never know.
