Inland Sea Saturday with Raz.

Post by Reelax »

Gerry and I hit the southern inland sea this morning at 6am. Had a nice southern wind about 15mph... We setup right out of the Apple island launch and were into fish right after our setup. 2 riggers with sliders and 2 slide divers... Running 15-35 feet down with our spoons. Water temp dropped to 60 with the recent wind and rain. Consistent 60 deg to 40ft. We found he thermocline at 55 where the temp drops from 58 to 54 in 5 ft.

Fish were acrobatic today and I had one 23" fish tail walk 25 ft across the back of the boat!

Here are some pics...

The weirdest thing we saw today was what looked like a Boat full of Syrian refugees. there were 5 or 6 guys all standing up in the wind and rain in a 20 ft row boat... Funniest thing is they appeared to be trolling.? They sure took a beating in the weather...I think Raz may have a pic or video of them... Maybe he will add it....gotta give em credit, they lasted till noon

graph showed good bait in spots..

This is the pattern and where they came from...

Save dinner in the box... These were some of the nicer ones Of the day...

This is all that was left of The alwifes these salmon were spitting up.

We had 3 spoons that got honerable mention... One is a heavy brass mp6 custom taped by Raz in a Tres Amigos pattern. It fired time and time again on the rigger as a cheater..

After 8+ hrs of trolling in 3-4 footers with gust up to 30, we called it around 2:30 due to exhaustion....

What a blast!

thanks Raz...

Great report Matt and nice pics. Over 8 hours and 22 miles on the water makes it a full day of fishing. Thanks for sharing.

Raz / Relax:

I've got to say that you two are what this forum should be all about. Plenty of information and detail. On behalf of myself, all new comers to this forum, and the others who continue to help other anglers ... my heartfelt thanks!

Nice going, Matt and Raz! Some fat salmon there. I've heard of otters hitting salmon, too. Guess we're not the only ones that like to eat 'em!

I second Tamiron's comments. I have learned a lot from the forum and these guys specifically. I have still have a lot to learn, but at least I can catch salmon with some regularity now. Good Luck to all in the derby this coming weekend.
