Beautiful brown good job! How were the blackflies where you guys were? It was brutal where I went yesterday in the northern Adirondacks, I believe eaten alive is the proper term, thank goodness for Muskol! Caught my first splake ever in a pond at a relatively difficult-to-access spot on foot. Lots of activity from the fish but I noticed yesterday that the fish are a little spookier than they have been in the past weeks. Tried a couple of other spots in the region with little signs of fish then went back to my usual brookie spot. Caught a few small ones but mostly I found the trout were just pecking at the worm instead of inhaling it like they usually do. I did have some success with a west river spoon and I saw a lot of rises, too bad its an awful spot for fly fishing... finished off the day with a small brown on the Saranac in Redford on a #10 rainbow smelt before grabbing supper in Plattsburgh and heading home. Its gonna be a beautiful long-weekend everyone get out and enjoy it!

sounds like the bugs took over the ponds where you were. none where we fished today. its going to warm up so it might be a good idea to wait until fall again for some of those ponds.Windknot wrote:Beautiful brown good job! Re: fishing update trout ponds 2016
5/21/2016 wayne and i hit a the pond this morning for browns and brookies. we were in direct competetion with a loon and the loon won easily. wwayne and i had a long day on the pond today . i was getting some runs on one pole and waynes and my other were silent. no takers though as i missed 3 or 4 that robbed my dillies. the loon keeps coming up and diving in front of use within 25 feet of us and spooking the fish. then around 10 am or so she went down the pond farthur and some more runs but no takers. then after awhile a get a good run with the rod bouncing wildly only to have the loon show up right in front of me and dive and then the fish taking my line scampers to shore real fast and gets my line stuck with him on the hook. tried everything to get it loose but no way and it broke the line. the loon was getting and earfull from wayne and i. didnt bother her at all. then she dissapeared again for awhile on the other end of the pond and somewhere around noon i had a good run and missed it. put on another dillie and as soon as it hit bottom felt something on the end of the line and pulled and fish on. wayne says is it a good one should i grab the net i said i dont think so but then it started zzzzzzzzzzzzzing my drag i said grab the net . that was easier said than done as where we were fishing was not easily handled. wayne finally got the net just as i got the nice looking male brown in to shore and in the net. finally got my granddaughter a nice brown to eat. after awhile the loon kept showing up and then he comed up with a big trout in his mouth we were guessing about 12 inches and swallows it and then dives down and comes up with another just as big and swallows it. then she goes back down again i looked at wayne and said im out of here. he has outfished us all day and its embarrasing.
i had lots of runs but they were shy today because of the loon and full moon. wayne on the other had only had two runs and not very good ones. its very deep where we were fishing and the bank is very steep and treacherous. i caught this brown in 37 feet of water and 67 feet out just a little farthur.
here is a pic of this beautiful male brown i landed. 17and 3/4 inches.

5/23/2016 wayne and i set out for those browns and brookies again this morning. got there early and started fishing without a loon in sight. wayne had a couple of runs right off but no takers. approx 8:30 am my line stiffened and rod bent but no line taken off and as i picked it up it went slack so i set the hook and to my surprise i had a fish on a and a big one . wayne says you need the net as he was doing something and had his back turned and said yes. i was struggling getting this fish up off bottom in this deep water. it was just head bobbing and bouncing my rod. it was almost straight down from me along the shore line and i finally started to raise it some and saw his head and off he came. it was one big trout to say the least. it was almost unbeleivable to have a trout on that big in a trout lake. lake champlain you can always expect something like this but not where we were. ended up leaving at 1 pm with no takers although we had plenty of runs. wayne had on and his line was stuck and it broke off in fact i think it happened twice to him. there was lots of bait on shore i front of us and i was watching them when all of sudden a good size brown came out of no where and grabbed two of them.

Another beautiful fish. Matt, You should save pictures of your 12 best fish and make up a fishing calendar for us for next season. It would be a lot cooler than those crummy ones they give away at the bank with pictures of birds and flowers.

5/25/2016 wayne and i hit the pond with the browns and brookies again this morning. wayne didnt arrive until after 9 am so i walked all the way down to the end searching new water. had one strong run but no taker. started moving back towards the parking lot to wait for wayne. when he arrived we wen down to a spot with not much debris in the water and a depth of 40 feet. fished over an hour without even a bump. said to wayne want to hit the shallows for some brookies he sais okay lets try. i was reeling in my last rod when a fish jumped right out of the water and tried to get my worm. opened the bail dropped it back down and soon as it hit fish on landed a nice 12 inch brookie. then we we down to the shallows for awhile and i landed 4 brookies. and wayne 0 had a bad day. when leaving for the shallows i had a bag with the fish in it behind my back. when we decided to leave it had dissapeared.
something in those big rocks took the fish and the bag and was somewhere underneath those rocks.
