First thing was the floating dock is now out of the water at Arnolds. Extremely shallow from the middle to east of the ramp. There is a deeper trough west of the middle of the ramp. Lot of gravel east up to the middle of the ramp and on the end of the ramp.
Late start as we set up south of the Grabber in the ozone south of Split Rock at 10:00 am. (Our first trip to fish Converse area (Split this year) Started out fast and furious trying to get 4 rods in the water the first 20 minutes. We stayed around Split the next 3.5 hours and then did the Death troll to Partridge to make it a closer run back to Arnolds when we quit. Finished with a limit of 4 salmon that were 15-16" salmon kept for Graham's diet study. They were swimming in the 56F livewell water and then put on ice for the ride home at the ramp to be frozen. We ended up with 20 lake trout and a number of missed bites and a few lost salmon. We targeted 50-60 ft down. Cheaters were ineffective today. Off at 3 pm.
There has been a bumper crop of 15-16" salmon (zero year lake age) and if folks can bring some of these in alive in the livewell at the Shoot out for Graham to put transmitters in them for release. Has 20 transmitters.
Whalon's bay has been very active for these zero age fish as well 40-50 ft catch window from another boat that did well yesterday in the afternoon. He had 7 or 8. Also Thompsons up past Cedar beach as been good too.
Good luck to everyone at the Shoot-Out on Sunday and we will see you at the BBQ. We could have caught more zero age fish using smaller spoons but we were trying for larger fish with our larger spoons after all it was Shoot out practice!

Cool stuff!!! Fish should survive in livewells just fine and I hope we can get Graham all twenty yearlings in one day!

Had an opportunity to fish the boat referenced w 7 or 8 fish later in the day after work. We branched out from the whallon plan due to wind....the salmon...are...everywhere!
Best one wasn't a shootout winner but getting bigger! Good luck out there! (Cropped/not my boat/not my program).

Nice fish Gerry! And thanks for the report! Should be a great Shoot Out this Sunday! I believe this might be the first Pre-shoot out report in the 15 years of this event. Everything has been kept mum in the past 7 days leading up in the past! Welcome to the Fleet and the event Gerry! Nice post Pat of the transmitter implant process!
Here is a video of the transmitter implants done on the Sea last Nov. 29th as a preview: The only difference is this year we are using 15-17" this year.
