The paragraph that speaks of going without the additional funding scares me...especially the mentioning of

"mothballing" of the Grand Isle hatchery, which is a driving force behind the Lake Champlain trout and salmon restoration.

If that had to happen, it might be enough to make me physically sick!

I think they mean "closing it for good"... by the use of the word "mothballing".

That would hurt IMHO....

"Mothballing" = "Boule à mite" = putting something away.. for a long time.

Is the Grand Isle hatchery the most important for Lake Champlain?

Yes Andre...it is.
If you've never been there, you should go. They are open daily and you can walk all through it.
