HIGH SCHOOL FISHING CLUB NEEDS RIDES

Post by raz »

The Brattleborow Union High School Fishing Club is looking for help. They are looking to get out on Lake Champlain to do some early spring fishing and need our help.

Here is a "copy and paste" of the PM I received today, asking for help.

As stewards of our lake and our sport, can we get a nice little fleet of boats to help these folks out?

Thank you.
BUHS Fishing Club wrote:Hope you've had a good winter. My high school club members down here in Brattleboro are more eager than ever to try Lake Champlain. Do you still think it would be possible for us to put together a day on the water with the Frostbite Fleet captains? I would probably have 10-12 kids. We think it would work well if we drove up on a Saturday, camped, and fished on Sunday. The kids have done fundraising to keep some money in the club budget. We did a trip out of Gloucester last fall and had a great time. The kids are well-behaved. (Our school resource officer, a Windham County Deputy Sheriff, is one of our members.) A lot of them have never even seen Lake Champlain or caught a salmon, laker, steelhead, or brown trout. If we could get enough captains to volunteer to take out 2 kids per boat, that would be terrific. We should be able to pay for gas and lunch and whatever else would be appropriate. What do you think? Would the guys go for it?

I think we could pick a Sunday in early June and get 8-10 LCU boats to participate. With 2 guest anglers per boat they could have a little derby for bragging rights and probably have a great time with the cold water wonders we all love. It would be a VERY rewarding venture for our group if we could get enough commitment. I am sure we could get some video group to tape it for Vermont outdoors, or something.

I think it's a great idea, just be aware they may have liability issues, and may need licensed captains. If not, and I'm around, certainly willing to help! Hope you can make it work.

Yes Kevin. Others have mentioned it also. "Charlie" of the school and the one that contacted us, is checking on his end about the "for hire" and USCG questions. My proposal to him is that we as a group do not want, nor are asking for any kind of reimbursement. It's just out fishing for fun, promoting a healthy sport, and being stewards of our lake and our next generation of fisherman.
