Trolling B's & Thorny Rotary Results

Post by philb »

What a great way to start my year the first fish aboard the Trolling B's in 2013 was a 16 pound 9.5 ounce laker on the first morning of the derby.

The fish came in 90 feet of water on a Northern King NK28 silver middle with pink and yellow sides bouncing the bottom. After a 15-25 minute fight on my 11 1/2 wet noodle rod up came a tired fat pig which my son slipped the net under. When we put the fish on the Bogga we could not believe the weight so we put the fish in the live well. After a few minutes we checked it again and still the bogga weighed the fish at 17 pounds. I called Rob who was as usual stocking the salmon and told him if my scale is not wrong that we have a 17 pounder in the boat it was now around 6am opening day of the derby. When the weigh station opened we were there with bells on and the fish weighed in at 16 pounds and 9.5 ounces. I called Thorny and informed him of the good news. I now felt very comfortable that we could take the team knowing Thorny would hunt down the salmon. Later in the day not to my surprise Thorny called and said he had a fish around 5 pounds to weigh when he made it in he had a nice chunky 4 pound 12 ounce salmon which put us in the lead. The next day our lead was increased when Thorny added a 5 pound 12 ounce fish to the board.

We had a great time and great luck.

Hopefully I can get back to more fishing and less work so I have something to add to this forum.

A big congrats to all who got on the boards there was some great fish weighed in.

Sorry for a crappy photo but I did not take pictures believe it or not.

It was a pleasure being teamed up with Thorny thanks again Rob.

Great results for Team Thorny! Congratulations Phil! That was an awesome point total and a record breaking Rotary trout. Gotta like the NK 28's for big lakers on the bottom.

I remember 12 years ago we were fishing a flipped over lake (upwelling in July) out of Converse for salmon and it was a slow morning. At the dock later there was this old boat with two guys that came in that fished lakers and all they used was NK 28's (one there 4 rods) and they had some big ones.
