Looks like an invasive round goby, but holy cow is that thing huge! What did you catch it on? They're nocturnal bottom feeders for the most part!

It was not in lake champlain. It was in salt water and is not a goby. You are right TUnames it is a type of sebastes. The local name was Chinese rock fish and according to the guide are very rare and was quickly released back into the water.

Yellow stripe, sebastes nebulosa. I haven't seen one since I left the west coast. Nice catch. Where did you get it?

Not poison at all. Sebastes are VERY good eating fish, especially this species.

I caught it on octopus for bait. 350' fow. In Ketchikan, Alaska. Several species of rockfish were caught and the guide said one of them was poisonous. He said it wouldn't cause death but serious infection. The dorsal fin bones were puffy looking and the guide was careful not to get pricked by them and released it.
