Mar A Lago Mahi

We launched Maire Sea out of Boynton Inlet at 6:30 after watching thunderheads build for a half hour and finally push offshore. As we poked out of the mouth we were greeted with a stiff 10-15 mph wind in our face and 4-6’ seas at 7 second intervals and occasional 8’ swells. We pointed the bow north and set lines in 170 FOW and we had to keep quartering east and west to try to stay out of the ditch. The easterly wind blew sea grass into the waters we wanted to fish and it was BRUTAL. I had to clear lines 6 times in two hours and if you have ever used 32 oz trolling leads with 50’ mono leaders you can appreciate the work it took to keep fishing and we kept plowing north. As we got in front of Mar A Lago a major thunderstorm was building and the weather service posted warnings for possible water spouts so we turned south and bumped up our speed a bit to run from the weather and within 5 minutes MAHI on!! After a 5-10 minute battle with the fish the gaff was flying, boat zigging and zagging and over the rail Mahi came.
After the obligatory happy dance we decided not to push our luck any further and pulled lines and headed back to the inlet.
Another excellent day on the high seas!
