Might sound basic but looking for advice. Last year purchased new cannon downriggers. Love the speed aspect from older ones but hate the bounce when getting to the surface as the weights force extreme bounce on the equipment. The device has plastic connectors to break circuit at the water line but thinking a second connector is required below thereby keeping the weight in the water and in theory minimizing the bounce effect. I have tried small snubbers and ended up losing weight to the bottom of the lake. What are you all doing to not lose equipment (concern of fish hawk) to eliminate risk?
I thank you in advance for your ideas and comments.

The short stop should stop the weight at the surface

Some of the newer Cannons have variable speed. If yours does , just select a slower speed. If not , set your zero a foot or two below the surface, then just bump it up to the surface .

I have used a Downrigger snubber made by Amish Outfitters, works great, takes the stress out of the cable.

Add a 2 or 3 foot cable between the short stop (plastic connector) and the ball.
Catch and serve with lemon.

Fish Thief snubbers, like them better then the Amish. Keep the weight in the water. Good luck!!!

Re: Looking for advice on Downrigger bounce at surface
I had the Fish Thief Snubbers and lost a 12# Cannon ball. I threw the other three in the garbage after loosing. Might try a smaller 2-3’ cable and a snubber.

I should have clarified, I change my snubbers yearly along with the downrigger terminations. Can never be to safe!!
