Legal Salmon Log December 29th - February 22nd.

Post by digitroll (ron) »

Thought my last trip was December 21st when I put my boat to rest. Then the big warm up after the Christmas arctic express weekend! 18 trips beginning on December 29th thru yesterday as I was on Randy's boat Feb. 22nd. 5.5" of snow here on the deck and a huge freeze coming Saturday - Tuesday. No sub legal salmon were taken during these 7 weeks with 59 salmon landed! A great run!

It would be good to list the number of anglers on the boat. We typically don’t utilize “Rod Hrs” but present it as “angler hrs” (# anglers * number hours = total effort). Angler hrs and fish caught is used to calculate catch rates.
On your clip vs no clip column – Don’t forget to check for double clips and adipose clips. There were some ADRV and ADLV stocked in 2021.

Some tips from Bernie Pientka Fishery Biologist on recording "angler hours" and some clips to check for! I updated and changed to angler hours:

2 skunks were the Dead Sea and one trip was 2 hours with my son taking pictures with his new camera from Christmas! Lol

Over 200 LT over those southern trips just a different kind of skunk.

Thanks!

Hey Ron,

One more Statistic soon to be added ......Surprise "Last Boat Fishing February 2023", on Reggies named "Laker Champlain" :)

36.7 water temp with single digit for the weekend it is sure to catch pretty well.

Lakers do have a different aroma from "Skunk" after aging at the transom, but they smoke up well.

You had the last trip in 2022 on Jan. 13th before the big freeze with Carl and I. When I looked at my records for legal salmon it took me till Aug. 16th to pass 59 salmon a season that resumed on April 1st for 2022 after our two January trips. Caveat: I missed two months with vacations and a busted boat windshield during prime time Mid June to late July.

You beat me to the "Laker Champlain" a Reggie coined phrase.

A great start for 2023! The salmon are back after 3 years of MIA. Maybe in 10 days we will get back out after all the cold is over and snow events forecasted. Two week long trips planned for Ontario May and July.
