Pre Easter shakedown run
Launched from the Winooski Saturday morning around 7am and was the first one at the launch. Got out off the mouth to find 38 deg water temps. Set out four inline boards with two having blue silver Husky jerks and the remaining lines with a J13 in blue and a blue walleye wiggler. On our first pass in 8fow we were hooked up on the walleye wiggler!
Netted this nice 6lber with a 20" hitchhiker clinging on.
Here is the 20" Lamprey, by far the biggest I have ever seen.
Before we finished our first pass we hooked up again on the blue husky and boated another 6lber. By the time we netted that fish we had left the warm water from the river and headed back south. As soon as we pulled over the way point we got the first fish we hooked up again on the walleye wiggler with a skinny 30"er weighing in at 7lbs on the noose.
We had one more fish hooked but it got off, so we headed toward apple tree to find some warmer water. Much to my surprise we hit water temps of 42 deg before we got to apple tree but there didn't seem to be any fish holding in it. We packed up and headed to shelburne bay to see what we could find there. With temps of 33 deg in the bay it seemed that not much was going on there so we packed up for the day and headed back to the launch. Great spring day to be on the water with a little bonus slime in the boat.

Nice way to start the season
But Damn, just how big can a Lamprey get ????
Is there any kind of a record for the biggest one killed

Is there a class for Master Angler Lamprey?
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will go buy a boat.

Re: Pre Easter shakedown run
Maybe we should put a season long derby for most and biggest lamprey killed in a year?
Re: Pre Easter shakedown run
Nice Lakers. What did you end up doing with the lamprey? I heard it got sliced up and deep fried a poor man's calamari. Prob not that bad eating.

Re: Pre Easter shakedown run
Im not sure what ever happened to it. I had big plans to put in a guys tool box at work, he is scared to death of snakes and Im sure that would have given him a good scare.

Nice shakedown.....Kyle. That Lamprey is probably one of the few survivors from last years spring hatch. They only live in the lake for like 12 to 16 months. No doubt we will start seeing this years hatch soon enough.
