Do you fish on Lake Champlain? Would you be willing to donate a fish or a small sample of muscle from a fillet? Researchers from Dartmouth College and the University of Vermont are working with the Lake Champlain Basin Program (LCBP) to measure mercury concentrations in Lake Champlain sport fish. The survey is conducted every 5 years to inform healthy eating choices and to understand how changing environmental conditions are affecting mercury levels in fish in Lake Champlain. Walleye, yellow perch, white perch and smallmouth bass are being collected from all seven basins of Lake Champlain between now and September 5, 2022. Fish or muscle samples from these four types of fish may be donated to the study via LCBP Boat Landing Stewards or by emailing the project team. Learn more about how to make a donation and where you can find the Boat Landing Stewards here: https://site.uvm.edu/hginfish/ or email hginfish@dartmouth.edu.
