May 14th, much warmer surface temps.

Post by Reelax »

 This season the lake temps were kinda like our weather. Cold and crappy with a quick change to hot and heavy. Had Heijac and Dreamcatcher on board today and launched at 1st light. We setup in 60ft of water and set 4 riggers between 25 and 10 with 2 -2 color lead rods long lined off the sides. Lake was flat with surface temps just short of 60 to start! Within 4 feet temps dropped by 10 deg. Amazing what a few sunny days can do.

It was not long before we had the 1st silver of the day take a sausage gravy milkshake for an air show off the back. We circled on every fish that hit but had a hard time getting repeat action to build a hot bite. We picked away and kept busy, but the bite was still not what I would expect in the area this time of year. Good news is we did as many salmon as lakers…

Early in the afternoon we had Matt Trombly in his lake Champlain trolling boat troll by to the south. Good so say Hi, before the lake gets busy…

We fished an area about 15 miles north to south, bait and fish were scattered all over. Best Bite all
Day was an area we found massive bait, I’ll post a pic of the huge school of bait.

Menu today consisted of peppercorn marinated pork tenderloin seared with old bay and slow cooked to perfection. This was followed with Shrimp skewers and bacon wrapped shrimp…

Lake was too flat all day. Would have been good to have. 1foot chop but we never saw a ripple of 6” all day:(

Thanks guys for a great day, good to see the surface temps over 50. Crazy to see 68deg surface temps south already in afternoon following days of sun… good thing that is for the top foot or so only…

Fish on!

thanks for this report and the photos. What a beautiful day to be out on the lake !

Beautiful day for a fishing trip! We too headed out at 1st light on the south lake and managed to go 5 for 7 in the first 2 hrs. Continued our troll north but never found a good concentration of bait or fish that were active. Took 3 home for the smoker. Back at it again soon!

Nice report and what a menu!

I think I'm living large when I remember to grab a couple Slim Jims and a Gatorade...

Lake like glass. I know it's not good for trolling, but, I do like those conditions better than too wavy. Cloudy with a nice gentle rain on water like that is nice too as I think it helps the bite a little.

I think with that food, warm air, quiet engine sounds on the water though, I'd find it hard not to drift off a little between releases. That's a crazy cloud of bait.

Nice job, guys! Nice to see some pics of silver.

I haven't been fishing for over a week! It's killing me! Headcold / sinus infection have kept me home for a while. On the mend, so hope to get out soon.
