North end foray May 9th
North end foray May 9th
Set out from Kings Bay launch at 9:00 am. Trolled the trench north of Knights to no avail. Marked very little bait. Trolled two lead-cores at 2,3,4 colors and two riggers at 25,35,40ft. ST was at 50 degrees, Ray Jeff showed 43 degrees below 12'. Gave up and ran outside through the gut (not a lot of room to get through with the bridge construction). Fished from Sisters south to ferry with similar set-ups, pulling spoons and sticks at various depths, both shallow and over the abyss. Caught one 27" slimer right off - that was the last fish we boated (black-back silver stick). Surface temp was as high as 53 degrees on the NY side by gravelly point, but again, the probe showed 43 below 12'. Marked a bunch of bait down by the ferry crossing, but little to the north. Tried all our usual hot spots with similar results, changing colors, switching out sticks, tried flat-lining diving sticks. Zilch. Didn't affect the absolute joy of being on the mirror-like water with zero wind on a beautiful spring day. Everything we had aboard worked perfectly, no gear or boat problems, and we put 33 miles on in 7 hours. We only saw two other boats out all day, and they were just passing through - not fishing. Hoping this is all a good indicator of a great season for 2022, and can't wait for the bite to happen. Gonna try again tomorrow - probably just south in the IS, maybe Keelers. Tight lines!

Don’t feel bad about your day We went thru the gut and fished north almost to town reef without a single release. Lake was so flat that you felt motionless if you didn’t look at your stern wake. Beautiful day on the water though. Fishin great. Catchin not so dood
