Lake Lunch Tour Jan 30, 2022

Post by Surprise »

After yesterday's blow at home and this at Diamond Island: Jan 29, 12:45 pm NNW37G43 :o

Kathy & I had to get out of the house and put some sunshine in our faces today.

Despite the chill in the air we packed a car picnic lunch and went on a lake tour.

Image

A Seared Tuna salad, Butternut Squash soup in a thermos and Kathy's Oatmeal raisin Cookies.... ;)

Headed up Rt7 to Charlotte and over to Charlotte Beach :

as you can see some sheet ice but overall pretty open.

Then to the Charlotte Ferry Landing where the past weeks wind suspended ferry service to Essex NY .

Image

The next stop on our way south was Converse ramp.....what a way the south wind can keep all but the inner bay from catching ice. I would have bet that it would be frozen out to Picket across to Cedar and Garden.

Image

Next was Long Point and 4 fishermen were coming off with the success of 1-10-inch perch to share between them. :(

Ice here was blown back pretty well and I stared pretty hard at the NY shore and swore I saw "RELAX" on the shoreline :P

Then off to Kathy & My happy place for lunch of Ferrisburgh Beach to eat and watch the coming of evening .

Image

Overall we are running way behind Traditional Freeze-up and if it tempers out a bit the South wind should open Converse for some late winter Frostbiting. Surprise is in the hut as ready as a Fighter Jet to splash where we can.

Stay Well, Randy

Reelax is itching for open water. That pic of converse has given hope. Maybe it isn’t over yet. Last week I was so bummed out With no open launches, I booked a week on the water in Florida in March just to get thru to ice out.:(

Wed in the 40’s and some hard south wind just do the trick…

Addendum to the Previous Post.

On tour the following day it appears we are indeed Frozen Out:

Went to Basin Harbor North dock to eat from what Kathy calls The Equinox Restaurant on wheels.

The fare of the day was Roast turkey wrap with Sriracha mayonnaise, mango, avocado, lettuce along with Minestrone soup from the thermos.

Then to Button Bay:

Then a view of the fellows ice pillar at the entrance to Arnold Bay:

and south with this sunset view:

Then the final stop before heading home Ft. Crown Point

Looks to be the Nasty weather will keep us in dining at home. When we get out and see something good we will share the view.

" Why'd ya leave the Tuna on so long" !!" I'll take it under advisement! ;) We Taste with our Eyes First! :D

P.S. the salad tuna was from the previous day.

No! I’t can’t be over. The bite has just started to get HOT.

Working a main lake launch to the north for a possible splash within the next week…. Jack??! HELP. This time of year. It may be HOPEless. But that doesn’t mean you can’t 😴.

Fish on.

Late March is just too far away…

Amazing photos Randy... We had 14 days below zero in January and that was Burlington next to that warm water. Here in Essex I am sure we have had more days than Burlington. Closed up quick this year. Nice shore lunch and sunny day! Looking forward to a late March early April launch and salt free dry roads... Not to far away.. :)
