Gotta love a personal best salmon in December
Dave and I had the honor of hosting Zeb (stubborn1vt) today out of Arnold’s bay at 1st light. We setup north of barber pt at 730 and landed the 1st salmon before getting the 4th down rigger set in the 2 foot rollers left over from last night’s blow… we ran 4 riggers and 2 slide drivers between 25 and 80 feet down today. Salmon hit best between 35 and 50. Hot spoons were sausage gravy Milk shake and tres omigos in an mp6 honey bee blank. Rigger mainlines, fixed cheaters, slide divers and long lead all
Fired today. Bait was solid on NY side as long as you stayed deeper than 130fow. Water temp was around 40deg top
To bottom.
After playing with various small salmon and medium lakers around barber and Westport we trolled south to cole bay.
The rigger with a white and pink stinger with a brass back fired and Zeb grabbed the rod. After a nice battle of wih the fish staying down the whole time he landed a personal best 24” salmon early in the day. After a quick length reading and pic the fish was released to keep growing.
Todays menu consisted of bacon wrapped scallops followed up with marinated venison kabobs… once again today we used the grill to maximize the bite and force action during the slow periods…
Saw what we think was Chessieman out today, but with no radio contact we couldn’t be sure. Hopefully they found salmon…
We are ended up with the counter at 22 fish today, with almost half being salmon. Only one lamprey killed so that is good:)
Frostbite season is on and it is time to find the big boys. Today was a start… more to come:)
Thanks for th fun trip boys!

Re: Gotta love a personal best salmon in December
Thanks for the invite Matt. Beauty of day. Had a great time swapping stories and learning more about the lake, frostbite fishing and the fish catching attributes of a grill. Dave kept the program "between the ditches" and that PB salmon was just icing on the cake! Great to meet you both and hope we can do it again.

A great day on the pond indeed, and a PB salmon to boot!
Lots of laughs, action and great food. Its never a dull moment on Reelax.

stubborn1vt - Congrats on the PB salmon, that's a beauty !
Reelax - great report, I was fishing the hardwater yesterday (first time this season, found decent ice on a small inland lake)... but after reading your post, and the weather forecast, can't wait to get the boat back in the lake soon ! very inspiring !

I do not exaggerate when I talk about fishing - I underestimate, like I say "just one more cast honey, then I'll come home" !

Reelax is Fishy. Zeb, Welcome to the crew. My PB salmon (and 2d best steelhead) was a Reelax fish too!! Matt knows the game, and any day on that boat is special! Well done.

Good work out there guys. We were supposed to get out there that day too, but, ended up on the mountain instead. We're looking at Friday morning now.
Those are some nice fish you guys got into. Especially the 24"! We would have let that one go too. Just can't bear eating those big guys.
Nice job.
