Well, its time to upgrade the landing net and looking for some suggestions. I know the new and improved Ego slider is popular but what else are you guys using? Thanks Kyle

I use a 7' aluminum net with an octagonal handle that extends another 4' or so.I modified it by drilling a hole in the end so it automatically stops when you pull the extension out,but does not lock when you collapse it. It's made by Cummins. It's so long when extended, I can net the fish before the guy in the boat next to me can get his own fish. (just kidding)

Yeah, you need a new net. I have a Cummins as well but I don't like how short the handle is. I might add an extension to it using another old net with a similar handle, surely that's a bad idea. I got it because I liked the green colored netting. I'll prob just keep the one I have.
Good luck in your search.

Thanks JT, I know that net well as you have netted many Walleye for me

I may end up going with a Frabill or the Cabelas pictured below.

That's a great tip from Frank! Rotating the handle so it does not lock closed and drilling a new hole works great! You don't need it to lock it closed, this way you grab the net and extend it without working the button. I drill 2 so if you open it quickly and miss the first one you have a safety hole. Just in case.

Stick with a net with an octagonal handle instead of a round handle as it can be a pain to line up the hole in a hurry when you extend it.

The biggest net you can afford.

Cummings with the Hex handle.

I have the new EGO and I have mixed feelings as when needing to extend it often sticks and requires two hands to finish. I sprayed some lubricant and it appeared to work better but not wanting to do this each few times out.

thanks thorny, I drill 2 holes also, it's a good idea, once my dad missed the first hole and the net end went sliding into the lake, fish and all, never to be seen again

I use a Beckman. It's 7-0 long and sturdy as can be, however it can be a pain to line up the hole when extending the handle. I draw lines with a magic marker to line up the hole. It is hard to explain how to line up the holes to a newbie. I've almost lost the top of the net a few times.

Ego Slider with rubber net.. Wd-40 every few trips helps keep it loose and sliding easy... Since it floats, no need for a backup... Only net I carry now.

I have two nets aboard my boat and the one I prefer to use for Salmon is the Frabill Conservation Series net as it is designed to help prevent harm to any fish and make for a safe release. The net is knotless and designed to be less damaging to fish slime & scales has a flat bottom which helps to keep the fish calm and they do less jumping. The net is also fairly good with hooks and tangle free.

Frabill rubber nets are where it's at. I love mine. Classic outfitters in South Burlington has them in stock at times.
