Hi there can anyone advise what reel to use for forty pound test mono on lake Champlain ? Concerned about spiney waterfleas. How to run off downrigger what lb test leader for salmon?

My Okuma Magda 20's get respooled with Trilene BG40 for flea season. Depending upon the depth you are fishing, you might not need to fully respool.
I usually add 150 ft, as I'm still fishing manuals and I don't want to go much deeper! For leaders, I use 10 or 12 lb fluoro, but if you are using stiffer rods you might want to go to 14, as the numbers aren't high but the salmon are large. Sad to see it, but we've already picked up fleas this season and the water is still cold. It could be a long summer!
