12/12/20. Split rock, Thompsons to Button Bay
I've noticed that fishing statistics is like baseball statistics in some ways. What you're keeping track of is fairly simple, but, it gets to be a lot of information fast the longer you do it.
Today The Country Angler had some records set. Most salmon on, and most salmon boated in a day. Brody's personal record salmon, and Liam's first double on 1 rod, a salmon, and a laker, laker was the deep fish. Also, Brody's first time participating in doubles on separate rods. And, first time 2 meals were cooked while trolling on the grill. Funny how many records can be set in a day, when we've probably fished probably 100 times this year.
Final score today was 12 for 17 total, 5 for 6 salmon, the rest of the 12 boated were Lakers of varying size.
Liam's PR salmon honeybee lure from last week produced more salmon this week. Both species of fish were biting lots of different stuff. Biggest salmon came on a silver laker taker, 28 feet down pretty tight to the ball after lunch. Most salmon came north for us, but the biggest was middle, and the lost salmon was south. 1 salmon came from 90 down, 60 back, the rest from 25- 35 feet down, pretty close to the boat, all but one came from sliding cheaters. GPS speed was 2.4 to 2.6 all day. Water temperature was 43 at the surface. Tried some new colors today, and the fish hit just about everything. Even a dodger and fly being towed too fast. That was the lost salmon by button bay.
Boy there was a lot of LCU out there too. We heard, talked to, or saw, Surprise, Digitroll, On The Job, Troutcrazy, Dilly Worm, Reelinvestment, and maybe a couple others were forgetting. Heard a few guys talking about how it was a beautiful day. It was the middle of December, trees are dormant, breezy gray day, middle of the pandemic. Couldn't agree more how beautiful a day it was out there.

Good work out there today guys! We stayed north and stuck with the deep program. Slow for us only one small silver landed and a few rat lakers. Still awesome to be enjoying such a beautiful lake this time of year when it’s just hardcore anglers fishing together!

Well, the dinner salmon have been eaten. Awesome as always, with my wife Alex's baked teriyaki maple thing she does. we didn't weigh these two fish, because they weren't big, but, I'm guessing about 2.5 lbs, and 2 lbs. We only seem to weigh the big ones. Liam filleted one of them today for the first time. Did a great job. Fed the whole family, and only a couple small portions left over for tomorrow's lunch. Another reason it would be hard for us to keep anything over a 5 lb fish. There'd just be too much leftovers.
To all the guys we were fishing with today: We had a lot of fun out there. Nice talking to Ron and Mike again, Nice to meet and talk to Randy for the first time, Tom, and Dilly. I'm pretty sure I saw Troutcrazy applauding my boys on the back deck landing a laker in front of Thompson's as he pedaled by while I was trying to keep the boat straight in a pretty good wind. What a great crew to share the water with in the middle of December.
Randy, we never found that white perch down at Scotch Bonnett. Only 19 days left to get Brody's 5th master angler species before he starts over. We're really hoping for a Brown or a Steelhead, or a Surprise warm water species.

Nice post Jack.
It was nice chatting with you at the ramp and finally putting a face to the name. You guys did a bang up job today in relation to all the hopeful players out " US INCLUDED" . I counted 11 boats in our line of sight at one time during the day. I was great to hear the radio chatter in the air again.
You are a Great father involving your boys and introducing them to some lifelong memories that you too will remember forever.

Jack,
What a wonderful time with the new generation of anglers. Give a child a fish and and they will eat it,, give a child a fishing rod and an experience and the will have a life long set of memories.
