Grande’ salami in the main lake.....
Wow... it’s days like today that make me appreciate the world class cold water fishery we have on lake Champlain.
I knew when I saw the rainbow over the boat in the Lowe’s parking lot at 1st light that it was gonna be special....
We fished today on 52 deg water and had nothing more than a 6” chop all day... amazing menu with chilli dogs, hot Italian sausage, and chicken wings on the BBQ. We hit the lake at 1st light and pulled the boat out exhausted at 4pm cause the action was pretty much non stop all day!!!
We ran and 8 rod spread with 3 down riggers, with bling and cheaters 25 down tight to ball in tithe salmon water... 2 slide divers, a dodger and fly on 2-5 colors of lead and a long line on a mini board off the port... the best spoons today were the verable sausage gravy milkshake and the custom painted perch speedy by Crazy Ivan. The tres amigos honey bee mp6 was a close third...
At our 1st spot we boated multi huge Lakers up to 12lbs.. but NO silver... we picked and ran and immediately Jeff got into a steelhead that jumped 7 times...
Yea we are in the right spot...
Next fish... Matt lands another big fat football brown. This one around 5 lb and a 20” flat tail........ then...... bam, bam, bam... a school of salmon and we have triples on.... we spent the rest of the day in this spot without catching a laker...
Believe it or not a salmon was our last fish to complete a cold water grand slam of.... (in order of catch) Lake Trout, Steelhead, Brown Trout, and Atlantic Land Locked Salmon... all in the net all in one float...... all by about 11:15 am! Blessed is Reelax...
There were NO boats in sight and we only saw one all day.
Seemed a 30 foot setback off the blades worked best layer in the day today... the fish we were landing were spitting up 1” alewives all over the deck..
Water temps ranged from 46-54 on surface and best bite. Was 25 down at 53 deg...
Covered 35.8 miles in 9 hrs of active fishing all day.... Blessed to have so much fun with such great people... you guys are the BEST!
Good luck to all in the Rotary this weekend... there could be a lake record salmon caught... I can smell him.
Fish on!

Relax:
Great job, great report, and a lot of info. Especially impressive during derby week. Doesn't seem like many adult smelt left in the shallows. Maybe spawning is over.

Re: Grande’ salami in the main lake.....
What a day on the pond. Light chop, full grill, active fish... a recipe for success for sure. Brass backs seems to be the ticket yesterday as all of the spoons had some sort of brass incorporated into them that fired. Tried others with white, and sliver backs with limited to no success.
Thanks for the ride and for the early drop so I could get back to life duties on shore. Till next week.

I want to be a fisherman.

Wow, Matt.
Your boat must have had rods bristling out like a porcupine.
It must have been hard to come in at the end of the day, but, being exhausted with a great day of fishing is being exhausted after a day of work!!!!
Oh yeah, the food, MMMMM!!!!
