The method seems flawed to me. We catch 2300 fish, and then if they are re-caught they count as surviving, if they are not re-caught they are assumed as dead. 2 major flaws with this are: Inherent weariness that would logically come from being caught IE a fish that has been caught would likely not want to be again, and would have some memory of events and try to avoid recurring (if i get mugged in a dark alley I will likely try to avoid dark alleys and especially that dark alley, which is why we are always changing lures from year to year), the more stressful the more likely they would want to avoid it (simple explanation why a netted fish would not be fearful of a hook in the future but a hooked fish would) 2nd issue is that there are countless fish that go their entire life without being caught, so to say that being caught 2 times means they are alive but only once means they died seems a bit of a stretch.
