Eyes through the ice
Eyes through the ice
I have recently gotten more interested in eyes ice fishing. Wondering what tactics people use for the on tip ups. We have done pretty well on inland lakes with mediums and heavy mediums a couple feet off bottom, but can’t seem to find them on champ.
Re: Eyes through the ice
we always use hunts minnows on champlain and st lawrence river 6 inches to 1 foot off bottom. floro leader line is a must for us. most spots on champlain where the eyes gather are around humps and most the ice isnt safe around them. find some walleye spots and night fish them on champlain. keith im talking down here not in the inland sea. i know there catching eyes way south of the crown point bridge but they dont advertise if you know what i mean.

Lake carmi is a good spot to catch eyes through the ice.

We fish carmi a fair amount. I am more interested in catching them on Champlain. Carmi is hit or miss mainly miss right now, and the size isn’t comparable usually to what people get on champ. As I’m not about eating them I want big ones
Re: Eyes through the ice
Fished there last week , 3 of us caught 8.
2 were 24"
1 was 25"
Rest were all 18-19".
Champlain is better at night than during the day.
Carmi you can catch all hours.
