2/15/2019 headed over across the bridge this morning for some laker perch fishing. set up 5 tips 3 with fat heads and 2 with medium shiners and 1 jigging stick with a fat head. walked out in 6 or 7 inches of snow and slush / ist hour and half not one flag. checked my tip ups and 2 fatheads missing and no flag. ugh. then around 10:30 am had a decent run on the shiner i land a 6 or 7 lb laker in 10 fow. reached for my camera no camera ugh. the next hour and half kept pacing back and forth looking for my camera. nowhere to be found jeez. my freinds were out and they came in and help me look but to no avail. caught 2 perch and decided to pick up at noon lifted the pail up and there was my camera underneath the pail in the snow. unreal. was really slushy when i walked back to suv

2/16/2019 hit the ice today late thanks to the wrong wind forecast. checked out 3 spots on ny side to get out of wind and all 3 some open water not good. so i came back 2 minutes from my house. set up 3 tips under the ice for salmon and 2 for lakers one suspended and one on bottom in 15 fow. started fishing at 9 am or so. had my jigging rod in to for perch. about 30 minutes had a flag on a bait under the ice taking line then stopped. waited awhile for it to do its thing but nothing pulled it in and no bait ugh then about 20 minutes later another one under the ice has a flag and its spinning like crazy then nothing waited awhile pulled it in and bait gone again hunts minnows. in between i landed 4 nice perch on the jigging rod. then no flags again till noon and the bottom bait gets a flag takes about 40 yards of line and stops picked the tip up out slowly and i could feel the weight of some thing on the other end set the hook and here i go hand over hand and this guy was fighting like no tommorrow got it to the hole an it was a nice laker started to put my hand in water to grab it but it shook loose. thats okay he was going to be set free anyway. probably 4 or 5 lbs. dont use a gaff because i release most of lakers . then nothing till 1 pm have a flag under the ice again but noone home. the perch bite was steady but not fast ending up with 16 nice perch

2/21/2019 got a chance to fish my favorite spot today as a freind said he would take me over there along with his son and freind. wow and it was just like everytime i ever fished there its a private spot but the big hill is a killer. we put all the gear including my jiffy 8 power auger on his shelter and we had to carry some. keith set up tip ups for the kids for perch and some with big bait i set up 3 tip ups with big bait and 2 for perch. the perch was not very aggressive but we kept at them and we ended up with 63 nice chunky perch and 1 good size pickeral keiths son caught i had 3 flags on big bait lost a pike when he got across underneath the ice on me and shook loose my mistake there. 2 other flags were noone home. we had a great day on the ice keith cooking veninson cheddar kielbasi and perch eggs. we ended up keeping 63 chunky perch and 1 pickeral.ImageImage

3/14/2019 i been fishing here and there moving around for pike perch walleyes any that want to play i guess. done a little traveling to searching new areas on champlain. i dont use sonar so i use my tip up lines and jigging rods for depths and cover. i have had some success and some not but im having fun. i really missed last year because i couldnt fish now im making up for it and been doing most fishing outside no shelter. havent done much sight fishing because i havent been using my shelter need that to see down the holes. im having fun and thats what its all about with different freinds almost every time. will post a few pics here from this week. but i got to tell you i cant wait for open water so i can feel the freight train hits again. please bring it on soon cant wait to see the frostbite fleet her

3/20 and 3/21 2019 headed south for some crappie action ist time fishing them on the ice. . set up 6 tip ups and 2 jigging rods each day. day 1 kept 11 nice ones fishing 1 foot off bottom with minnows. missed many and the ones i caught were 9 and 10 inches. day 2 i went against the grain for crappies i put all of my bait right on bottom and boy did it work. big crappies all morning long. i would have to check the tip ups every 15 minutes or so because they would not trip the flag always. the biggest surprise was on my jigging rod set up for big fish i had on a 1/4 ounce johnson splinter tipped with a minnow. this took the most fish and had the most bites. even lost a walleye at the hole on it. i did not jig i dead sticked both jigging rods. my past experience i catch to many small fish jigging. i was looking for only 11 inches and up and i did caught 37 crappies and all but 5 were 11 and over. i kept my limit of 25 on day 2 and kept 11 on day 1 much smaller if i get to go back will do the same everything right on bottom. also caught a catfish that gave me a great fight and he did not want to come up the hole wow it made my day.ImageImage

3/24/2019 headed north with 3 freinds for some smelt fishing we had a blast . each one of us caught a good mess of smelt and even had some needling going one. scott and jesse ganged up on me to outfish me with their 5 rods to my one. but they only beat me by 4 . scott went outside to stretch and jesse tied a empy beer can to his line on a rod.   scott came in started jigging and pulled up his beer can. the laughs started. i put my rod down to check my phone and i got a bite and reached down to get it and trying to put my phone in my left jacket pocket and i missed hit the ice and slid into and down a home in 45 fow. ugh. the smelt were good and firm cleaned them up and gave them to my daughter.Image
