12/31/12 The bite before the new year
12/31/12 The bite before the new year
What a day started out at dark thirty set up in one of my favorite winter spots and no takers so i moved out a little deeper and bingo there they were.Had a great mourning of fishing. ended up with 13 salmon 2 browns and 1 laker. Lost a monster salmon that i fought for 20 minutes he broke the end of my heartland rod and got tangled in other downrigger line solid 8 pound plus fish had him to the back of boat twice but couldnt seal the deal made me so mad i threw broken pole overboard then i realized i left reel on it oh well. Lost a beauty brown also when a ice covered net slipped out of my hand and knocked lure out of the browns mouth almost lost net. Big salmon lost was 45 down on free slider sausage gravy all browns were on 2 colors leadcore golden shiner and salmon were all from7ft to 27 down on gold lures mainly old style hi techs. Awesome fishing along side Dean and Gerry great day on the pond. Happy New Year

Great job & great report, FATHEAD!
Good to see some people are still fishing the soft water.
Guess you will have another chance at the one that got away. Stinks about the rod.

Great meeting up with you Jeremy and thanks for clearing off the ramp.
Loved your fat browns but hated to hear about the big silver that escaped your wrath...but that's probably how it got so big. Now it's still there for you to tackle again.
I'll just tag onto your post:
Dean and I launched sometime after Jeremy, just after the sky started to light up. We started inside Converse Bay, trolled out and around Garden Island, then over and around Thompson's picking up only one small laker. We crossed the abyss towards Split Rock picking up another small laker along the way, and Dean dropped a hard fighter along the green camp ball grabber. We rounded Split, headed into Whallons and spent the rest of the morning there.
We picked at them landing one brown, 4 salmon and several small lakers. Good laughs, conversation, and chowed on Summer Sausage, cheese, hot thin sliced London Broil and horseradish mayo.
Dean is a great host and it was a pleasure to spend the last morning of 2012 with him. Thanks a boat-load Homewrecker Dean!
Early morning start
Homewrecker
Hot grub
Our only Brown of the outing
Hooking up with Jeremy afterwards for a few tips
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE.
Dress warm, be safe, and get out if you can!

First let me say thank you to our ramp and launch stewards Reggie and Jeremy! these guys did a great job plowing and shoveling so the rest of us could get out. If you are going out bring salt or sand with you for the converse ramp or you may stay longer than you want to. Had a great time with Raz and Fathead on the last frostbite day of the year. good friends, good food, good fishing, life is good Happy New Year!
