Middlebury College R/V DAVID FOLGER on the Lake at last

Post by popster »

I was fortunate enough to be part of the crew for a few days, to deliver the new 48' Middlebury Research Vessel, the DAVID FOLGER, to it's home at Point Bay Marina. A simply amazing vessel, fully equipped to handle numerous lake-related tasks and then some. The vessel even has a very sophisticated downrigger! Congratulations to Middlebury College, especially Tom and Pat Manley from the Geology Dept.

Nice looking cat Bill. That would fun to fish in the shoot out with that fancy rigger and a bunch of slide divers.

I was delighted to see that they took extensive measures to clean the entire vessel at Fort Edwards to prevent dragging invasive's into Champlain! They set the bar high for others to follow...although I would still like to see the Champlain Canal closed.

Karl...the entire building of the ship, from the first cut of aluminum to the delivery to Lake Champlain is in the blog link that Popster posted.

Got it now, thanks.

Interesting build, with lots of glitches along the way, and apparently some cost-overruns from the initial $1.7 million allocation...but, Middlebury of course has the big bucks...plus got grants.

Now, has does the gentry schedule a ride?
