8/30/2020 it's been a long stretch since I fished a trout pond so I decided to try it this morning and hit one 1.5 miles . A friend's son said he would go with me. But the forecast was for rain showers till 10 am so we decided to hit a road side pond in the adirondack high peaks. Started fishing on shore at 7:45 am after rigging up riley. We were fishing on bottom with dillies in a nasty wind. I missed one ist half hour there and then riley landed a nice male brookie. But that would do it although we had some good runs. We caught 6 or 7 bullhead and the wind changed and blew right into us knocking over chair rods and worms gusts were up to 25 mph there. So we decided to pack up and leave. In between wind changed we were talking when a big trout surfaced 15 feet from riley in 3 fow and disappeared. Looked like a beast of a female brookie. Won't be forgetting her for awhile.

8/2/2020 took fishy2 trout fishing at a road side pond. Bite wasn't there she caught 1 round whitefish and 1 small brookie. I had 1 decent run but it was dropped.

8/10/2020 headed to a adirondack trout pond solo this morning hoping to catch some nice brookies. Started fishing at 7 am with 3 rods and baited with dillies. Didn't take long for a run but noone home. A little while later bail open I get a run with rod tip bouncing wildly set the hook noone home. Ugh. Put a dillie on and tossed it back out and a few minutes later a run and rod tip bouncing wildly again set the hook and fish on and a fighter. When I saw it near shore I was stunned I just landed a landlock salmon in a brookie pond. Took a quick pic released it and middle rod was also bouncing wildly set the hook fish on and a good one and it busted water and unhooked another salmon this one bigger. This is crazy. Then about 1/2 hour later a good run set the hook fish on and a good one but got hung up on bottom . Opened the bail back up hoping fish would pull it out but it didn't broke me off. Then a little after 10 am had 3 or 4 quick runs and and landed a 8 inch brookie. Crazy day on a trout pond but was fun. Sounds to me like someone is doing some illegal Stocking and this is detrimental to brood stock brookies in this pond

Matt, Glad you’re getting out, that was a good day. Do you think DEC put the salmon in there? Might be worth a call to Region 5 to find out. If they’ve been doing it for a while there could be some huge ones in there. And by the way, what’s a horse hair worm?

the salmon were stocked in there illegally. the pond is a brood stock brookie pond

9/20/2020 head to a trout pond in the high peaks solo this morning with a 29 degree temperature and only one parking place to park . started fishing at 8.40 am with 3 rods with dillies for bait. ist half hour 0 runs then got one and fish on i land a brookie middle rod was also going but noone home. then shortly after another run and fish on another brookie. then till the next one and half hours 8 more runs and i landed 5 so i ended up 7 for 11 for 2 hours of fishing it was fun but cool. trout wernt aggressive on this day though runs were stop and go. all were released cant wait to hit another pond.
