2012 Shakedown

Post by Heijac »

Well, I FINALLY finished all of the work on the Heijac, and put her in the water for a few hours. The good news, is that the new NFB steering works great, and my motors are both charging (thanks again for the tip Jeff!). Got the zippers replaced on the top, some new rod holders and storage/organizers in place. Unfortunately, the fish were not impressed one bit! Had 3 hookups on my maiden voyage, and dropped all 3. This afternoon, I made it back out for a couple of hours, and never had a hit. Oh well, nice to be back on the water, and looking forward to another great year.

I also want to say thank you, once again, to Supercab, for helping me out with the new steering.

I had NFB steering installed in November 2010. 2011 I fished hundreds of hours solo and the NFB made all the difference in the world.
It's well worth the money if you don't have it.

I had to handle very hard my steering at high speed, it was very dangerous if, for a little moment, I did not handle it correctly. The boat would make a turn too fast and guess what happen after... Remember this accident ?

Now, the NFB do it for me, I installed it for my security.

Sorry to have hijacked the reports Heijac...

Ya, NFB is def a good idea.

Although I replaced the helm on my boat with a used unit (due my strong-arming a frozen motor pivot and breaking teeth in the helm Feb 2010- note to self :-|) my probably 20+ year old cable has sort of "developed" no feed back at this point LOL Paying attention at the helm could probably avoid a lot of boating accidents- NFB is removing one more variable from the subset of "mistakes" that can end badly. That and I don't know how I could ever fish solo or take some of the guys fishing who have no experience if I had to pay attention to steering constantly.

Good luck heijac on the 2012 season! I have already been out more than half as many times as 2011 so far :)
