Launching Question

Post by Gecha (Gerry) »

Hi,
I have the day off tomorrow, so I am heading to Champlain.
Does any one know if the Winooski launch is safe? I heard the water level was low and could be a difficult ride reaching the lake.
What about the Coast Guard launch. I never been there. Is it easily accessible.

Any information is welcome.

Depends where you want to fish. Malletts Bay offers a great launch and fishing in the Outer Bay or you can head in either direction and hit the fish.

Gerry - Winooski is usable, I launched my 18.5ft Lund there last weekend and made it out hassle free. 2.1fow at it's lowest. I would recommend the Coast Guard station, it's nice.

Coasts Guard launch is protected from the wind, it has docks up, easily accessible. Obviously a further run from there if you want to get to the mouth of the Winooski, but very do-able. Once your in Burlington, head straight for the water, at Battery at the bottom of the hill, continue straight and the road turns to the right, continue straight on that road, it goes by the Burlington waterfront and you end up at the launch.

Google Maps Coast Guard Station Burlington, Depot Street, Burlington, VT

It's actually off Lake Street, past Depot St.

Tomorrow I would like to try for lakers.
The Coast Guard station ramp look very nice. I think I will launch from there.
Then head up towards winooski. Someone also recommended fishing the Sherburne bay.
I look forward for a nice day on the water, with VERY HUNGRY fish. It will be my shakedown for 2012.
Thanks everyone for your responses.
