Fishdawg on Champlain 3/31 and 4/1

Post by Fishdawg »

Fished accross from Converse on the NY side Saturday morning with Dean (Homewrecker). We caught 3 salmon and lost a laker at the back of the boat. 3 fish were on the riggers 12-15 feet down and 15 feet back and one on lead. 3 of the fish were caught on a coptiger. customized mooselook (lime green hammered mooselook with black tiger stipes and red dots on front, sliver and black with red dots on back. It was a hot lure last year and off to a good start in 2012. The other fish came on a rainbow speedy shiner which had caught 6 fish last week. The morning started off fast, but the wind died down and so did the fish. We were off the water by noon.
Met Gerry (Raz) at Appletree Bay Sunday morning. Quite cool and good frost on the windshield. Calm winds, but the fish had us FOOLED. We tried shallow water as well as deep water. Fished over to the Milton shore and back as well as up and down the cowbanks all the way to Kibbee Point. Never found any warm water (35 to 37 degrees was all we saw) and the fish didnt want anything to do with our offerings. We tried riggers, lead and long lines. Had some good conversation, but we werent able to practice our netting techniques. Maybe next time! We saw a good number of other boats out but it didnt appear anyone was doing much with the fish. Hopefully things will get better as we move into April.

I was right there with you today. Tried all the same tricks and threw every color I had at them, even used planer boards up and down both the cowbanks and the Georgia shore. Not even a release :( Going to try them again on Tuesday. Patience and persistence.
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will go buy a boat.

I certainly had a great time today regardless of what the fish were doing. That's a great fishing rig you got dawg, thanks for the opportunity to fish on it with you.
We'll get 'em next time!
Catch and serve with lemon.

No doubt the weather has us enjoying this great lake! IS seems like that, gives it up one day and not the next! But knowing what's in there it's worth the hunt. Nice report
