3-28 Sandbar with 4C's / Shaye D Winds (3 quality salmon)
What a day!
One of those should I stay or should I go at 5:00 am seeing snoflakes falling outside in the dark and winds predicted for 30 mph today and showers / snow.
Well the decision was the Sandbar and a first time visit for 2012 with all of us meeting at 8:30 am. Always nice to get back to your roots. With Pat aboard and Don we put out the big Super Ski's with masts (heavy lumber) and 3 rods per side we started at the beach and headed towards the corner. Water was really cold after a 2 day blow from the north. Only had 38.5 at the warmest with most water at 37.8 like the main lake. Fished 3-4 feet of water and the first 3 hours were really slow without a touch.
Decided to troll back to the Cowbanks and try the deeper water. We found some bait and decided to pull the boards in and dedicate a four rigger 4 rod program. At this time the winds kicked up to 27 mph and gusted to 30 mph. Yikes! But with the back curtain down and the heater at a medium setting was a very warm 70 degrees in the enclosure.
The first rod popped and Pat had a beauty go up in the air on his Crazy Ivan spoon. Don put the net under it and we weighed it on my IGFA certified Boga scale I received at Christmas last year. 5.5 lbs! Lots of high fives!
30 minutes later we set-up again and this time I had a 4.5 lb fish rip out of the release on the rigger.
One hour later Pat landed a 4 lb fish. All weighed on the new Boga scale. 3 quality fish today and no lost fish or releases!
We enjoyed Don's smoked Coho on crackers with cream cheese and everyone was smiling today as well pulled the lines at 3:00 pm.
Fish were all caught on Crazy Ivan spoons at 2 mph GPS and 10-15 feet down with a 65 foot lead.
Ben: I will never say the fish are skinny in the Sea anymore. My bad! These fish were chunkers!
Thanks Pat and Don for an outstanding March fishing day!

Great report Ron! I was a little worried after a total skunk Salmon fishing out there this ice fishing season but with what I saw the other day and the quality fish you guys took today makes me excited to get out. God bless you out there in that wind and temp. I think the only thing that would have gotten me out there today would have been a submarine!
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will go buy a boat.

Ron, thanks for the trip. it was a geat time out there and just what I needed. A day out of the office to spend on the water on a cold windy day. What fun. It was much better than being in a warm office looking out the window. It was a fun day with you and Pat out there. Those Crazy Ivan spoons really catch quality fish. We did not have to put up with any of those pesky clones.
