RJB wrote:Man you have caught more fish in one season than most have caught in a lifetime. I think I'm going to have to try to catch a bunch of gills and sun fish to try them. Never ever tasted them.....not one time. We like white perch and yellow perch. But we mostly eat any kind of trout...brook, bow, lake and brown. My friends from Indiana are die hard pan fisherman. Love bass in the winter also......
I am amazed at how quickly you can clean that mess of fish......you should post a video. I am sure most would like to see how its done.
Great photos of the fish as well. Quick set the hook!
Roger-
roger if you like whites and yellows your going to love sunnies. sweeter taste and freeze longer and better than yellows and whites.
filleting sunnies is really easy once your accustomed to them. wouldnt know about with a electric knife but with a 4 and 1/2 inch filleting knife its easy. just a little over 2 hours tonight with 96 pan fish and 3 bass. filleting washing and packaging. all fish tonight will be picked up tommorrow by freinds to eat. i keep them on ice and bring out only twenty at a time fillet wash and package and in fridge. i like to keep them cold at all times. if you were close by i would give some to you to try.

my bait man gets lots of fillets from me to keep my crawlers coming even most of the winter. fmb tackle in port henry and his worms are in buss bedding. john cant fillet his fish because of arthritis so i give him fillets as his family eats lots of fish.
He is a nice guy and has the best price on worms anywhere!
One heck of a bunch of sunnies under the boat!

Fishy you have some of the coolest pic. The sunnies came out so clear it gave away one of you're fishing successes secrets LOL. The barter you have with the worm guy works out good for the two of you. I would go out on a rainy night to pickup night crawlers and did this for years but now Traci raises European night crawlers. They don't need refrigeration and they multiply by three fold every 3 months. She started with a few hundred and how she has hundreds of thousands.

what do the european crawlers look like and do they work as well. the pics were clear because of the calm winds. i have tried to get pics under water of big fish and schools of yellows but because of the waves could hardly see them.

8/16/2016 set anchors at 6:40 am and a little farthur south and out even farthur than monday. the depth was about one foot deeper so im guessing 14 to 15 fow with a nice bottom with some weeds. decided today to drag bottom mostly and just left my other rod set out from the bottom. ist drag landed a nice 11 inch yellow. 2nd drag another yellow. i knew then there was a nice school of yellows out there. got a few bites on the rod near the boat and they were yellows and whites and one bass. then at 7:40 am dragging bottom i felt something then nothing and the line went slack like it broke me off. kept winding in the slack for about 25 feet and the rod just doubled over and stopped me completely without even moving it and it let go. had a funny feeling it was brute and was hoping it would hit again. after texting my wife about it she said the same it could be brute. i had a good bite on my set rod dropped my dragging rod down and landed a nice bass . taking the bass off my dragging rod was bent about 6 inches or so like it was on a weed. released the bass picked up my dragging rod tried to pull it off the weed to start dragging and couldnt budge it. thinking im stuck on bottom i was going to pull anchors but suddenly my line goes slack again with me trying to catch up and when i did hang on my drag started ZZZZZZZZZing and fish on and my adrenalin going hoping it was brute. the fight lasted maybe 20 to 30 seconds and off it came . pulled my line in and the fish bent the hook about 1/4 of a inch or so. took a good look at it and it broke the barb off of it also. it had to be brute in my mind and has escaped me for the 3rd time. fished an hour or more when the rain started to come down so i head in since i had a about 1/2 mile or so to get to my pickup. kept 23 nice yellows 8 and nine inches and 10 sunnies. landed 5 bass all released. funny thing is this area where i was this morning i saw a huge fish surface yesterday that could have been easily a 30 lb or so fish. thinkng carp all the way i couldnt make a positive identification. chawk suggested it might be a sturgeon and he could be right. we are getting some much needed rain today and should help my oaring my boat a little easier i hope. maybe then wayne jimbow and others can join me again for some great fishing.
looking forward to another challenge from brute if that was him.

We should have bets on the species of the BRUTE i'm going with a monster of a Bowfin.
Fishy's post has me hooked like a house wife with her soap operas Lol
The european crawlers are smaller then the canadian night crawler and they are very lively on the hook.
We have watched them with our under water Camera when we were ice fishing and they wiggle so much you don't have to jig.

to big for a bowfin. would shatter the state records by 15 lbs or so if it is. im going to go with sheephead for now possibly another state record one. the state record caught recently here was caught less than 3 miles from where im fishing and a 24 lber was caught also recently less than 2 miles from me.
would like to try those european worms sometime.
how did traci do in sebago.

8/18/2016 set anchors out farthur in the broad lake in search of sheephead and white perch. 7:15 am set anchors with white caps out there so much for 2mph east wind on weather station. set 1 rod near the boat and the other with the heavier sinker would be for dragging bottom. ist drag a white perch and for the next couple hours a steady white perch bite. had some great stops dragging bottom but small sheephead and no brute. even caught some sunnies out there and some nice yellows. 9:30 am pulled anchors and moved out a little farthur on the lake. slow start but the whites picked up soon after . caught a few sheephead at this spot quickly so im hoping brute would show.it didnt happen today but had fun with the pan fish. released all yellows and sunnies today unless they were badly hooked . landed 7 sheephead and 3 bass also all released. kept 61 white perch to fillet for my bait man fmb tackle. (john) not a bad day since its full moon but i did notice i had to keep the line moving got only 15 or 20 on the set line.

8/19/2016 set anchors at 7 am somewhere close to where brute ist took my rod and reel. approx 11 fow. in scattered weeds. started dragging bottom with success as i was catching big whites. then at 7:45 am they stopped biting which is the norm on sunny calm days. they like low light or stained water. my set rod wasnt doing much at all so i took a look under the boat for sight fishing. didnt see much so dropped my line down slowly and then i saw them sunnies and big ones. a steady pace of big sunnies the next 2 hours then around 10 am a school of nice yellows also moved in. could only fish with one rod since the bite was steady to say the least. then approx a little after ten it happened my rod doubled over fish went under the boat very fast and snap it broke me off. 15 lb trilene big game that i just spooled on this reel tuesday. it happened so fast i didnt even have time to react. the drag was set but i only had about 5 or 6 feet of line out because i was dropping the line down. with its power and no give under the boat fish can break you off easier than with lots of line out no stretch. i should have known something big was lurking down there because just before that i seen sunnies scatter at a very fast pace. well if this was brute or one of his freinds he won again this makes the 4th time all in that same little area. just before i pulled anchors to go home hooked into another big fish but didnt run like other one and came off with no damage to the hook. didnt have nearly the power that brute has. brute must like crawlers this one was off bottom. i might try fishing with my cat rods with crawlers under the boat dont know how that will work with all the pan fish . im open to any ideas anyone else can think of i just have to see what brute is?

kept lots of big sunnies and yellows for filleting. landed 3 sheephead and 10 bass all released. kept all whites. i was thinking during the night that this fish could have also been a 25 lb plus catfish as they have lots of power and also like crawlers.

Get an 8 foot medium action ugly stick and put 50lb power pro on it. I pulled in a 150lb gator in Florida on that setup. It will handle brute no problem.
Love the saga.. Can't wait till you land him!!
