8/10/2016 set anchors in the area brute was last this morning in the grassy bottom at 6:45 am. was going to stick with 2 worm rods one for dragging bottom and one for under the boat. had a slow start in the rain and wind and it sooned picked up and pulled my anchors. so i had to move in just a little and let more anchor rope out to hold bottom better. yellow perch started biting and soon after whites. the bite got better as the morning went on and fish were bigger also. catching some nice bass also dragging bottom. once again 10 am came and soon started catching small sheephead it must be their feeding time. after that the big seeds started biting steady close to the boat. caught several 9 inchers took a pic of a 9 and 1/4 inch seed but my camera is now being charged will post tommorrow. todays catch i filleted 53 yellows 26 whites 22 sunnies 3 bass and 2 sheephead that were badly hooked. also released at least 30 pan fish to get bigger. a good day on the water despite the strong southerly wind which made it difficult for my trip back to shore with the jungle weeds on top of the water. 2 hours of filleting washing and bagging the fillets.

here are the fillets

8/11/2016 set anchors at 7:20 am and going to challenge brute again for the third time. a nice southerly wind that kept it cool all morning on the lake. set 2 worm rods again one still and one dragging bottom. nothing on the dragging bottom rod but the rod beneath the boat was on fire with sunnies and nice yellows. ist 2 hits on dragging bottom were bass. couldnt drag bottom much though as there was a big active school of yellows and sunnies under the boat just above the grass. this is one of the reasoons why i set one hook around one inch from the sinker and the other 6 to 8 inches above the sinker. normally the one closest to the sinker does better and bigger fish also. not this day though it was the one 6 to 8 inches above the sinker. left the lake at 11:25 am and headed home . landed 38 yellows 32 sunnies that i kept for filleting and 1 white perch. also landed 14 bass all but 3 dragging bottom including 1 20 inch 4 and half lb bass. kept 3 smaller bass to eat. 0 sheephead today.

no brute again.

8/12/2016 set anchors at 7:30 am due to strong winds and it took me a little time to find a big enough hole in the jungle to fish out of due to no being able to get out to the main lake. the hole was around 8 feet wide and i could see bottom surrounded by jungle weeds. started very slow with 2 worm rods over the side of the boat. cut some worms up in pieces and dropped them down under the boat looked down and still no fish. then at 7:50 am landed a nice 13 inch yellow that i released. then a few bites and misses. then at 8:20 am a school of perch on the bottom and a school of sunnies assembled under the boat and i started to catch pannies. lots of sorting but still fun catching them under the boat. saw some big bass carp and bowfins but no takers. i was fishing 6 fow. left the lake at 10:20 am with southerly winds around 20 mph. have 39 pannies to fillet today. not bad since i was very limited where i was fishing and had to fish straight down. we need rain badly as it is very difficult to oar through the jungle especially into the wind. the jungle is now at least 1/4 miles to 1/2 mile out into the lake. the shore line where my boat is at least 20 feet from where my boat is tied to a tree. dont know if i will be able to get out at all if we dont get some much needed rain. bass boats i talked to today had to keep pulling up their trolling motors as they coudnt even move their boats. just like to thank the one bass boat that offered to cut a path to the shore for me with his big motor. i declined and said thanks. driving a nitro with a vt registration i beleive. he looks at the forums from time to time.

8/13/2016 set anchors in 2 fow of water one cat rod and one worm rod at 6:50 am. had to stay close to the pickup due to storms forecast for today. got chased off the water at 9 am with rain . landed 3 bullhead and 1 white perch on worms and missed 3 other fish. had 1 run on the cat rod and lost a decent catfish.

8/14/2016 set anchors in 13 fow at 7 am even though it was very windy. non stop action for pan fish and some bass bullhead and eels. ist the sunnies then the yellows would take over. the wind was nasty but i had extra anchor rope out so it would hold better and it did. got some water over the bow but nothing where it would affect my safety. my little 12 foot jon boat is a star craft welded and a very safe boat for 1 person. lots of boats come in on me and take a look and just shake their heads.

its not a car topper as it weighs 110 lbs. got broke off by 2 fish today that i couldnt get out of the weeds . that rarely happens but where the 2 fish hit were in some jungle weeds that i had no way of knowing they were there. filleted 33 yellows and 46 sunnies today all were giving to freinds. sawyers would have liked the eels.

talked to jeff (chawk) all weekend and he is without a boat for awhile. dont want him t
photouploado get cabin fever.

a good size yellow
a good size bass

I got out with my friend Henrey for a couple of hours of bass fishing(don't tell anyone) and we caught 8 fish 2 to 3 1/2 lbs. plus a few smaller, mixed bag smallies and largemouth right in Outer Mallets. Hopefully the boat will be fixed this week at Vermont Home and Marine, right Fred, Bob?I guess I got an accumulation of water in the tank.Keep the posts coming Matt. Maybe you should bring a machete with you to hack a path through the jungle

jeff it would take me the rest of the summer. a freind has a weed razor but that would be very time consumming also. that rain has helped and i can get out a little easier if i go north ist then east. tried it this morning and it was a little easier but there was also no wind.

8/15/2016 headed out this morning to try the flats where the bottom is pretty much weed free. set anchors at 7:10 am next to a patch of cabbage weeds. dropping one worm rod straight down and one rod for dragging. caught some big yellows right off straight down and no hits dragging. it wasnt long though i couldnt fish with 2 rods because there was a huge school of sunnies under the boat. my rod i was dragging bottom with i just threw out and left on bottom. to busy with the rod under the boat. just as fast as i could drop back down fish on. there were all good size. seeds and gills mixed and a yellow thrown in once in awhile. took many breaks as i was texting with raz (gerry) mr gill hairbone targa v18 and others. the fish wernt going to go away soon.

raz was fishing for walleyes up north and wasnt have much luck but did lose a giant smallmouth the last i heard from him. had 2 bites on bottom way out and caught a 4lb plus bass and lost a white perch that had to be close to 2 lbs. only white perch of the day . they seem to dissapear out there. was fishing 13 to 15 fow and was out farthur than i have been all year. was a fun day kept over 90 big sunnies and released probably another 30 also landed 17 bass most on the small side. took some pics of the school of sunnies under the boat will post.

Man you have caught more fish in one season than most have caught in a lifetime. I think I'm going to have to try to catch a bunch of gills and sun fish to try them. Never ever tasted them.....not one time. We like white perch and yellow perch. But we mostly eat any kind of trout...brook, bow, lake and brown. My friends from Indiana are die hard pan fisherman. Love bass in the winter also......
I am amazed at how quickly you can clean that mess of fish......you should post a video. I am sure most would like to see how its done.
Great photos of the fish as well. Quick set the hook!

my bait man gets lots of fillets from me to keep my crawlers coming even most of the winter. fmb tackle in port henry and his worms are in buss bedding. john cant fillet his fish because of arthritis so i give him fillets as his family eats lots of fish.
