11/25/2016 hit the lake and met up with wayne and his son around 6:45 am. lakers busting water in 3 spots so we separated and wayne and i also used a 2nd rod to put a certified smelt on bottom. i looked on the water and there is a smelt floating right into me so i reached out with my rod and pulled it in and put that on the end of my line instead. my 2 nd cast after i got set up and real sharp hit but no taker. then jeremy waynes son had a hit and a miss to my left. then the next half hour or so i had a a real strong hit 20 feet from shore and fish on and for some reason i set the hook and pulled the laker right out of the water and the lure right out of its mouth,. ugh. i never set the hook and it was such a surprise that i did especially that close. it was a nice female laker around 27 inches. that would be it for us for the rest of the morning although the lakers were still busting water. wayne and jeremy left at 11 am and i stayed until 11:30 am and headed pheasant hunting. wayne had 0 hits for the 4 th time in a row. unreal. went over to my rod with the smelt on it to pick up i noticed the rock i had holding the line wasnt there and the slack was also gone. i figured i had a run and didnt see it so i waited awhile and nothing so i decided to reel it in . nothing on and i had only 20 to 25 feet of line left apparently a laker grabbed the smelt and made a run and the zebra mussels near shore cut my line off. went pheasant hunting with no luck there either.

11/26/2016 started out solo this morning at 7 am but soon would be joined by other forum members before mornings out. eric stopped and said he was going up to a river and i said okay im waiting for some freinds. eric was back in a 1 and 1/2 hours he fell in and was very cold. started out with lakers busting water and i had a hit but no taker. then around 8 am had a hit and fish on landed a small 20 inch laker. then i had 2 hits at 8:30 am almost back to back and both busted water and shook loose. then around 9 am or after elys and her 2 sons riley and christopher and a freind showed up elys got stuck lost a lure christopher got into a laker and got broke off and then riley had a laker stop him cold and fish on an off. thats to bad i said to riley but its been like that all week. then wayne called and said he would be down soon and vt matt and edin texted me and said they were on the way. those lakers are going to see some metal and streamers. had a couple of more hits and wayne showed up. i was telling way about a big brown that surfaced in front of me twice and would like to get it. we casted awhile there and wayne said im moving to the other end of the rocks. wayne had just left and that big brown surfaced again and i casted right out near him and the lure hit the water and there was a big splash and fish on the brown nailed my lure. fish on and what a battle 1 jump 2 jumps 3 jumps 4 jumps and away it went. the last jump # 5 i tipped my rod down just enough for him to throw that lure. ugh! that brown had to in the 6 to 8 lb range. what a brown and what a fight. then shortly after forum member vt matt and edin showed up for some laker fishing with their fly rods. wasnt long i heard matt yell yikes and he lost a nice one after seeing the laker just before that. then i had a another hit and a miss. just heard from matt he left after i did at 1:30 pm to hit a river and wayne stayed another hour and still no hits. the lake was like glass so the fish were spooked . we saw several lakers with follows but would shy away. i had 10 hits today lost 3 lakers and the big brown and landed 1. riley lost 1 christopher got broke off by one wayne 0 hits vt matt lost 1 and missed 2. lots busting water but not aggressive today. here is a pic of elys, christopher, riley, and freind casting for lakers.
here is the honeybee i used most of the morning had 8 hits on it but went to a mepps cyclops when the water was calm to get a little deeper with my cast.

here is a mepps cyclops that i went to went the lake calmed down only had 2 hits in 2 hours but the brown was special. probably would have hit the honeybee also since it was on the surface.Imageimages hosting

Looks like Matt's Laker Casting School. Going to be some fine fishermen coming out of that class! Keep up the good work.

11/27/2016 hit the lake again this morning for some laker fishing. got there at daylight and casted out a certified smelt. just as i was about to walk back to the car a good size salmon busted water about 2 foot or so above the surface then again and again and again it seemed but then all of sudden 2 just about jumped right over each other. it was 2 salmon doing there thing for about 30 seconds or so. what a thing to watch. wow. hurried and got my rod set up for casting with a fishy1 casting honeybee on but couldnt entice either salmon to hit . wayne showed a few minutes later with a fresh donkin donuts coffee that hit the spot. fish busting water just about everywhere but coudnt buy a hit. around 8 am or so i had 2 quick hits and misses close to shore. then around 9:15 am a good size laker kept surfaceing close to shore so i started to target it after about 15 minutes it finally hit and i mean hit like a freight train 25 feet from me with the drag zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzing. got it in within 10 feet of me and it shook loose. ugh once again. then another hit and a miss. then wayne decided to go home at 10:30 am and had some errands to do. i was supposed to wait for flyfish1 to say hi and fish for awhile. at 11:10 am had a good hit and fish on finally i land a nice laker. released it and started casting again and almost every cast i would have a follow and when i was retreive the lure out of the water they would bust water like they were mad at something. flyfish1 freinds showed up and said flyfish1 would be here in another hour told them i had to leave and ill meet up with him again soon. landed the laker on a honeybee trout pattern. lots of fish busting water today but most were out of casting distance.

Hi Matt,
Thanks for waiting for me. I had some emergencies in the house department. Family comes first, fishing second !
I wish I could have fished with you.

I met up with my friends and had a very good day. They got into 3 fish. One was pushing 10 lbs and two others were in good 6 lbs range. All caught on this greenish crocodile spoon. It was different fishing from shore than on a fly. All hits came very close to shore but some fish were busting very far.

Maybe next time, I try it on the fly. We stuck around until 15h30 but could not bare the cold and wind afterwards. Got dark very fast after and no fish was seen after 14h00.

I will try to catch u soon on the river.
Fish on to all and stay warm out there.

11/28/2016 met up with wayne and jeremy at daylight this morning and wayne had a great cup of coffee wating for me from dunkin donuts. it hit the spot. we talked a bit and i set out a certified smelt and drank coffee. wayne and jeremy started casting . nothing busting water which is very unusual in the early hours. about 1/2 hour later i started casting with a split green krocodile 2nd cast about 15 feet from me i had a thundering hit and the laker busted water and was pushing my lure and rod sideways. dont know what happened but i dont believe the hooks were ever in his mouth maybe he was foul hooked dont know. but it was a big laker. jeremy just shook his head and i think he said you must have made that big laker mad. it was cold and our guides were freezing up so i would bring my to the car and unthaw about every half hour. the rest of the morning was not going to be good 1 hit for the 3 of us and nothing busting water until 10 am when we saw a brown about 10 feet off shore. we called an early quit and i went pheasant hunting and no pheasant but jumped several deer.

Had 9 on Sunday between my friend and I. Smallest was 24" or so, largest was 31 on the dot. All of mine were on flies I tied Saturday night/Sunday morning. Great day for sure!

Matt, they were all from the shore with the fly rod. The furthest one I hooked was probably 40 feet out. Some were as close as 10 feet. The photo is a little edited as to not show the very popular location!
