If you really want to get away from transom mount ducer,go with a thru hull,if you have a fiberglass hull and don’t mind putting a big hole in your hull!!!they are way more expensive than a transom mount but they work good for trolling

I run a Lowrance 7 (and an a 5 which I just use for the chart plotter), they’ve been great for a few years, but was thinking about replacing the transducers as the screens have been a little cluttered this last season. Fortunately, muskrats made the decision for me. Late season while on the morning in Westport, the little punks climbed up on my swim platform and chewed both transducer cables in half!

That sucks paul,they get couple boats every year in my marina. They got the captain boat next to me few years ago and when he replaced his transducer he found this metal wire mesh wire loom that he ran his ducer cable through,it comes pre split,so you can add it to existing cables ,hasn’t had a problem since.I’ve also seen guys split a rubber hose open to put over the cable,that may help deter them from getting at your cables.
