Sterilizing Lamprey?

Post by fishmaster176 »

Flipped on the tube this afternoon and Dirty Jobs has a segment on lamprey sterilization on the Great Lakes. They inject the males with a chemical and free them. What a waste of taxpayer money. Even Mike Rowe laughed at the effort. I can see research into finding more efficient ways to clean them off the planet, but to release them back into the water so they can suck life out of an edible fish ...... I didn't see what they did with the females.

Maybe they had to cut out when they got primitive on their heads. Otherwise, no that dirty of a job.

Dreamcatcher, It was very interesting to watch. Yeah, that was a tiny chip. Treating the water sounds much more efficient and cheaper. I'd have nightmares if I handled those slimy buggers every day. Science is a good thing, but that's quite an operation for a species that everyone wants dead. Euthanize, don't sterilize.

I didn't get to see the show, but I think they are trying to do the Austrailian Sterlization? They take males and make it so the only produce male offspring and then after some time they breed them self out of exitistance. Works well but it takes a long time to prove effective.....

Where is the spell check I have trouble with the big words? :D
