I recently fileted a salmon from Shelburne bay, and it too was full of smelt. No alewives at all. That's a good thing..

Fits in with what we saw the other day on the several deep water trawls we witnessed on the UVM R/V MELOSIRA in the Shelburne trench. The Smelt to Alewife ratio was very encouraging. However, that can reverse rapidly as lake conditions change.

Can't tell you the ratio, but not many Alewives compared to the Smelt take.
A few small Lakers showed up in the 8-14" range.

this is very good news for the smelt fisherman. probably never return like years ago but its encouraging. was wondering if all the smelt were close to the same size found or all different lengths.
