My vacation
My vacation
Every year my wife and I rent a cottage for two weeks up north at the baskatong reservoir around Mont Laurier .
I fish for salmon and walleye, the salmon is a little bit bigger than on the Champlain but not as plentiful .
This year I managed 3 salmons over 10 pounds, it's a first for me. All the ones over 10 pounds went back in the lake, the only big one that I kept was 9 pounds. If you are lucky you get one in a day around 5 to 7pounds with a hell of a fight. My partner Bern and his wife came to join us for a few days of fishing but unfortunately, he only managed a walleye.
My wife came fishing (she accompanyed me on the boat everyday) except for one morning and of course my two loyal partners Moka and Sybel came along too. In the morning we would fish till noon and then to the beach, a nice sandy place for lunch and a swim with the dogs. Thas was the part of the day that the dogs loved the most and then on the way back to the cottage I would fish a little bit, but most of the salmon was caught in the morning and in the afternoon and after supper we caught mostly walleye. In the first week I managed 13 salmons and on the second week 6 but much more walleye.
As for the salmon I fished a totally different way: mostly stick bait 5'' long and the best color for me was gold, I guess it was what they fed on in the lake this year. I even tried something that I use on Lake Champlain such as vertical blades and it worked pretty good. My 3 biggest fish bit on the side that I had the blades, the spoons that I used were much bigger than those that I use on Lake Champlain, I even caught some walleye on the spoons .
I already reserved for next year's vacation but this time for three weeks in a row.

Re: My vacation
That was definitely a great vacation.
Thanks for sharing.
Those salmon are beautiful...big and fat...one looks like a football.
I love the marks on them. The marks appear larger than the strain we have in Champlain. Great looking fish!

WOW!! Holy BIG salmon!! I would sacrifice quantity for quality like that!! Especially if you could fill the box with walleyes as incidentals!!! Great fishery indeed

Re: My vacation
Thanks Pierre for sharing this great fishing time. Looks like you did pretty good on the quality of the catch and you really enjoyed your stay.
Your Lund does cover a lot of territory.
Too bad your 2 girls can't get a fishing license fishing with only one rod per person in Quebec is not as productive.
Looking forward to share some good time with you soon.
