I wish I could fish northern Champlain more often, but it's such a long drive from where I am at the southern end. Anyways, I had an invite from a friend who lives in North Hero, so I headed up there yesterday morning. My hopes were to get a 19" Master Angler smallmouth, but the smallies wouldn't cooperate. Not surprising with the high skies. The day started slow in the Alburg Passage, but we found a few willing biters on senkos and dropshots. All were small, under 2 pounds. After a while, we decided to make a change, and go looking for firm bottom with scattered weeds, and when we did, the size improved. Crawling jigs on the bottom was the ticket, as long as you could feel a hard bottom. Ended up with maybe high 20's for numbers. These were the best of the day.
