A 4 setting should dig well off to the side. The slower you run the less it will side plane. At 2.3-2.5 it should dig well to the side on 4. You want to be careful if you are fighting a fish on a rigger line and you slow the boat down. If you go too slow they will drop into your cables. 4 is a good setting to run right now. As the fish stage at 50 plus I like a setting of 2.5 to 3 to maximize depth. I would never run a setting less than 2.5 with riggers in the mix. The accessories(4oz weight and rings) can also be a great enhancement for getting deeper.
